Lost our companion of 13 years yesterday

Thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers. The admiral and I came home after being out all day today and there was no one to greet us when we opened the door. The house was empty for the first time in 13 years.
I told her I didn’t want another but after tonight I don’t know.
 
I hear ya Scott. I travel alot and want to take the admiral and not worry about a pet. Then many times she is home by herself and the pup is a comfort for her. Someone may be getting an early Christmas present. I'm not packing the food bowls yet.
 
Sorry for your loss. We had to put down our 14 year old Chocolate Lab, Holly, in the spring due to cancer. She lived a good life. We didn't plan to get a new dog, however we couldn't resist our latest addition, Benji. He's a handsome 15 week old Australian Shepherd that we welcomed into our family three weeks ago. We were thinking that it would be great to be pet less once our 13 year old Cocker also passed, however we've both had dogs for our whole lives. The house would seem empty without them.P

Sorry for your loss. But like Scott, we took pre-emptive action 2.5 years ago when we got our Chihuahua to provide a buddy for our then 8 year old Corgie and 10 year old Great Pyr mix. We had to put the latter down a little over a year ago and our Corgie, grieved as we did, for almost four months but now he and the little guy our best of buds so things worked out. Loosing one of our 4-footed friends is tough but if there is another one or two left, it is not nearly as hard as your circumstance. As others have said, remember the good times with Happy, and I am sure there will be a Happy II or III in your future. Dogs are too good companions not to have one around.

Sorry for you loss. Went through that earlier this year so I know it's not easy. It's amazing how they sneak into our hearts and warm it so.
 
So sorry to hear your sad news. Been there, done that and it's not nice at all.
