I would make it at least 2 times the depth or more as the more angle it has the better it will work, I have a 100 foot line on board to use if needed and most of the anchoring we do is in 20-35 foot depths.Collector21,
One more question...if you anchor in 30-35ft of water how long should the anchor saver rope be? Would 50' be good?
Thanks. Do I stress about it? No. It's boating some things may happen and you just have to be prepared as you can. I have lost and anchor once because I was an idiot. I was in Lake Washington one year to watch the Blue angels and dropped my anchor over board and allowed 120+ feet of rode out. I thought it was tied off inside the anchor locker but it wasn't as I saw the tail squiggle out and overboard I quickly dove in and at about 6' under water I realize I'm not going to be able to surface with this thing. Lesson learned, Darwin award avoided.Todd,
......Tell me...do you stress about losing the anchor? Have you ever lost one? Have any tips?
I don't know the rating in pounds but I use the standard tripple strand nylon twist 3/8 diameter. Its not to bulky to store and so far has gotten the job done. Remember all you are doing is trying to back the anchor out from the opposite way it went in. If you get the right angle it seems to work easily.what is your rope rating in terms of lbs?
