Has anyone had a total loss of steering on their boat, as contributed to the Axis System? I have lost my steeing approximated 7 times and the only way to re-store it was to turn all power off, wait a few minutes and supposedly re-boot the computer system that controls the steering...when the steering goes out, you can turn the steering wheel, indefinately in either direction with no response...a few times the Axis System did work and I was able to control the boat with the throttles and Axis. Any and all information will be greatly appreciated...This is my first boat and relatively very new to boating. Ron

I read some wheres that theres a computer glitch in that system.
I'm looking for that article but I can't find it. :smt021

That would be unsettling when up on plane :wow:. If it happened where I boat mostly, you would have to take quick action or end up on the rocks! I agree, get this looked at by Sea Ray immediately (like before you use your boat again)

Have your service manager raise visibility of the issue with Sea Ray and Mercury if you don't he can't fix this now. Mercury has a bad habit and long history of putting stuff in production that should still should be in test.

Best regards,
Frank

Sea Ron,
You list your engines as 454s which if my memory serves me correctly went out of production in 2001-02. Axius was not introducted until 2007-08. Did you have it installed after-market on an older boat or is your engine information incorrect?

You need a software upgrade - contact Merc, they send out a merc rep to do the upgrades. Just got my last one this week. Axius system works flawlessly.

Side note...while replacing all my batteries (4) last Friday I had a long discussion with my local SR lead mechanic & he stated that the Axis system was very sensitive to its power supply & that if the voltage drops below a certain level the system crashes. They will not jump start an Axis boat expecting the charging system to run the Axis & charge the batteries but tow it to slip & do a slow re-charge of the batteries to full 1st.
