Hello all,

I keep my boat at the marina so I know that the crud will slow me down about 5mph. Also, I usually have 7-8 people plus gear on the boat as the kids always invite friends. I use to easily hit 40-42mph, now I am lucky to hit 25-28mph. Boat is 2005 SeaRay 200 SunDeck with the 5.0 merc which I believe puts out about 265HP. Mechanic says compression etc is good. RPM's are at about 3800-4000 full throttle. How can I get more speed out of this motor?

Thanks

if you are only hitting 3,800-4,000 RPM's with a light load and the outdrive trimmed properly that sounds low for that motor....if you are hitting 3,800-4,000 RPM's fully loaded that may not be too bad.....look in your manual to see what the recommended RPM range is supposed to be....i would guess you should be hitting in the range around 4,400 - 4,800 at WOT with a light load.....i would start with a good 'complete' tune-up of the engine and outdrive if it has been a while since the last one and as you know getting the bottom cleaned will also help...you will be amazed at how many 'ills' a good tune-up can cure.....

Cliff, Thanks for the note. I will check out what you recommended. Also will plan a good tune up at the end of this season. I did take it too the mechanic prior to putting it in the water as I had the similar concerns last year. The SeaRay dealer said everything checked out fine and blammed it on the crud and weight. I am thinking a dual prop or some modifications to the engine might be the key.

Trim seems to be working just fine. I thought the same thing as it takes time and some wieght up front to plane out when I am pulling the kids on the tube.
