hey fellas

2004 04 300 DA

My alarm went off on Tuesday after using the boat for maybe 40 min. When I was coming back to my dock alarm went off lucky I docked with out any issues opened the hatch and you could see the container for heat oil was empty. Wired. Added to the line it should be up. Next day went on a ride 25 min out 25 min back and it was already half empty. Topped it off again. Last night went to see the fireworks was riding for like 2 hrs came back checked the container and it was almost empty.

I think I’m loosing it only while driving and the shaft spinning.

Any suggestions?

Should I keep topping it off or should I have the boat hulled out and fix it?

Assume you have check to make sure it's not leaking into the bilge? There is the lube monitor bottle and a hose that runs to the transom - can be prone to leaks. If nothing there, it could be the lube hose on the outside of the transom that connects to the drive on the STB side. Those are the easy cheap fixes, so check that out first. The next likely source of a leak like that is the propshaft seals. Guessing you have a BIII - they tend to use some gear lube, but not the amount you are seeing. Are you seeing a sheen on the water around the drive? If the gear lube bottle and hoses checkout, next thing would be to drain the gear lube and pressure test the drive to find the source of the leak.

Correct the bilge is bone dry not a song drop of water or oil leak.... and yes Bravo 3 drives

Then with the amount of lube you are loosing, I would suspect the prop shaft seal. But at this point need to get the boat out of the water to asses.

It could be the Carrier bearing. Happened to my buddy's 280 with BIIIs. Hard to see oil sheen on water when at cruising speed. Corrosion on the lower unit where the prop (stainless steel) abuts the outdrive (aluminum).

After a fluid change you may experience a sudden drop of oil as the air "burps" out of the system. Since this happened twice I do not think that is the case. So basically if the gear oil is not in the boat then it is outside the boat. Prop seal would be the next logical thing to check.

Thanks fellas, I am gonna drop off the boat to my mechanic and have him fix this issue as well as few others, props tune up and engines tune up

also be sure to check the condition of the hose from the transom to the outdrive. we just had to replace ours.

Dropped it off at the mechanic last night hopefully I’ll be under $1000 lol
