5.7 alpha one drive
I'm going to look at a 1996 230 select this Sunday and would like any opinions on the boat. It has a 5.7l alpha 1 drive stainless prop, new carpeting a year ago, cockpit and bow covers 2 years old

It has 530 hours, the pictures of the interior and exterior all look good.

They are asking $12,000 boat and trailer. I think that is a little high. NADA lists it as about $9,300.

He said he had the bellows replaced about 1 month ago for $1,100. Is this normal for a boat this age? and what problems should I look for that may have been cause by bad bellows?

Thanks ahead of time for your input

What kind of maintenance records does he have?

No service record other than what he had done this year, new bellows, shifter cable, and trim pucks replaced.
What are trim pucks?

Took it for a ride yesterday. Thought it should have gone faster. It topped out at 38mph at 5,000rpm. Is that normal for this boat with the 5.7l motor?

hmm, I just purchased a 230 OV 1996 with 200 hrs on it (5.7 with electronic ignition and fuel injection), mint condition. I love it. I do not know the pitch of the stainless prop on the leg, but with trimming the leg i got her up to 48 mph(my GPS and speedo were in sinq on this)( no trim tabs installed yet, thinking about it though) on a calm lake a few weeks ago.

I took her out to the west coast Vancouver Isalnd to fish Halibut and Salmon, we had issues when we Hammerred the throttle, started coughing sputterring , so eased her back and milked the throttle up, when she got on plane , no probs, but that 10 foot swell really played heck with getting to plane. something deffinetly wrong with the timeing. I just got word at the Marine Mechanic that they ordered the board/card that controls the timing , Ouch $560 Canadian plus labour. I hope this fixes the throttle issue.
