Hey everyone-
I'm new here and this is my first post! I've been a fan of Sea Rays for quite some time, and I am finally in the market to buy (looking for a 19-21 foot boat for water sports/cruising). I have recently been presented with the opportunity to buy a 2006 205 Sport with the 5.0/220HP engine with very low hours (current owner claims approx. 30 hours) and all the goodies (tower, board racks, etc). I have not seen the boat in person but all the pictures indicate the boat is in great shape. I am going to be looking at the boat next week.
Can anyone share (from your experience) if the 220HP engine will be sufficient for wakeboarding, tubing, etc...or should I be patient and wait until I can locate a 205 Sport with a larger engine? Additionally, can anyone share what price range a boat like this should go for? My research indicates approx. $26,000+/- , am I in the ballpark? Also, are there any glaring mechanical/maintenance issues that I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance for any info and advice y'all can share with me. I'll update after I obtain more info on the boat and include pictures if/when I buy. Looking forward to getting on the lake this spring/summer!

Thanks,
Greg

Has the boat been in salt water? 220 hp is plenty of power to do anything you want. If you need more pulling power(2 or more skiiers at a time)change the prop. to a 4 or 5 blade. My boat is only 135hp and I tow a skiier with a few people on board no problem. Check the outdrive for any damage and ask to go for a cruise. If you have a bigger engine you'll use more fuel, and you know how much gas is.

I agree on the 220 HP being enough. My little 180 sport has 135 HP and I pull a skiier with 4 in the boat without issue. I learned to ski on a 18' glastron with a 65 HP motor so anything is possible. I can also tell you that my little girl will do 45 mph when I am alone. Again, not bad for a 135. On top of all of that, she get's around 5 mpg at crusing speed. I can run her all day pulling tubes and what have you on less than 20 gallons of gas!
