Here is where my GPS is mounted. (was there when I bought the boat).
I would like to mount it on top with the Garmin mounting bracket.(I hate looking down while I'm driving).
The question is: once I take it off from where it is now, there is a nice "roughly" 4"x4" hole there and 4 screw holes.
Any ideas how or what to use to cover it, and make it look decent?

Just stick some Duct Tape over the hole and don't worry about it. :wow: :smt043

Seriously, you could probably make a whole new panel out of a piece of Starboard and just replace the exisiting one.

I agree with Dave. If it was mine, I would cut a new panel out of Star Board and replace the old one.

I did a Google search and for a 24" x 36" x 1/2" piece it was about $80 plus shipping.

I believe West Marine, Boater's World and others stock it.

Good luck!

Do a search for King Starboard on Google, you'll find plenty of retailers that sell it by the square foot, starting as low as $7.00/sq.ft.

Thanks for starting this thread. After reading it, I realized how I can replace a switch/guage plate on my boat that is cracking using a piece of Starboard that I had lying around...just gotta work on my routing skills now.

I agree as well to replace the starboard. I may do that on my dash eventually, since I just replaced the VHF, I'd like to reorganize the location of the things installed on it but that's a winter project and for now it works fine.

But The GPS location I agree with you, I didn't want mine above the dash or in the spot that I would have to look down.
I'm not sure if you caught my GPS install thread, but I'm very happy with where I mounted mine.

I think we have the same dash. I mounted the round base with Stainless steel rivots and as you see here a hole for the cables under the dash, but made sure that I can still tilt the starboard panel out.

It may look like it may be in the way, but it's not. Since the door doesn't open all the way behind the helm, when anyone is moving towards the cabin, they're directed toward the port side.

I also like that while sitting I can easily see and reach to control the GPS

and if I stand I can tilt the screen to view it as well.

Best of luck and I'm curious to see what you end up doing
