Ok, so were planning on taking a trip to Chicago, possibly down the river a bit.

Last year, we stopped at "Dicks Last Resort" - right by the locks... but since then they have relocated.

So here's my question...

anyone familiar with any 'interesting/good eating establishment' thats accessible by boat?

I dont know of any places on the Chicago river that actually allows transient slippage, but from my earlier searches, I know that we can tie up in the Monroe or DuSable harbor.

Navy pier right now is our only thought, but was wondering if anyone else knew of a place not too far 'off the boat driven path'

Thanks!

I've only been there once and it sucked. I couldn't find anywhere to moor or transient. Other towns like Milwaukee and many Michigan ports have lots of municipal docks set up right along the water for just what you are looking for, and they are free. I am planning on heading back down to Chicago maybe later this summer though, so I'll be watching this thread. Hope someone knows!

I had an article a few months back that was in the Tribune that listed all of the Riverfront Restaurants.
I will try to find it or you can try to go to the Chicago Tribune Archives or possibly MetroMix Chicago.

Down on the South end if you go through the O'Brien Locks on the Calumet there are few Restaurants/Watering Holes that have mooring.

At Sunset Marine there is a brand new restaurant / bar that is pretty good.

If I get up to Chicago this weekend I will try to run down the river and get some names for you.

When are you thinking of coming over?

Just did a search.
You might want to contact a couple of these and find out about docking.
I know for sure Fultons does have docking.

Riverfront Restaurant Reviews:

- Smith & Wollensky - High end chain steak house, Very pricey. Delicious food, and, in the summer, beautiful outdoor seating. I think they also have a lower-priced restaurant on the same level as the water.

- McCormick & Schmick (Wacker location) - another chain, this one specializing in seafood. Very good food The only river views are from the outdoor seating in the summer, though.
Great Happy Hour Menu and pricing. 4-6:30 pm and again after 9 pm.

- Fultons on the River - Another seafood place. The food is OK, but IMHO, not as good as McCormick & Schmick. People on this board have said that they have great oysters. I've never tried them there though.

- Rivers - On the North Branch

Dan,

As always, thank you.

Fultons looks pretty nice... Im curious though, what type of attire are some of these locations? (Being on the boat... its not easy for us to change into 'classier attire'... )

Do you know if anything went into the old "Dicks last Resort"?

We might end up heading up there this or next weekend... just to check things out.
Granted, were planning a trip in September to head up on my buddies 340... for more of a day trip (river, restaurant, maybe Navy Pier, etc)

I did some searching and heard that theres a few places to stop on the North River.
Unfortunately, some of the information may be dated... so Im going to have to confirm some via phone.

Hey, Air Show is Aug 15/16th... gonna go?
