Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in SE Michigan / Nautical Mile area (I live in Grosse Pointe). I have no service records for my boat so I want to have some maintenance done, like pull the outdrive

I don't know what your mechanical ability is but pulling the outdrive is not at all difficult. Basically get the boat on a trailer and with the tongue jack lift the front of the trailer until the outdrive just touches the ground, undo the bolts, the speedo tube, and the throttle cable and poof, it's off.

Lube the gimbal and the ujoint, install a new gasket kit and check out the bellows real well.

When putting it back, use a big screwdriver in the yoke of the ujoint and as you push the shaft on, give the shaft a twist until the spline is aligned, bolt her back up and away you go.

The outdrive is best handled with two people, although I have done it myself.

Took me about 40 minutes the first time I tried it. The downside is that you don't have the tool to check engine alignment.

The only mechanic I trust (and I mean TRUST, he's that good) is Ron Lake at Bridgeview Marina in Sarnia.

Good luck. Drop me an email if you want to get in touch for further explanation, I'm in Rochester Hills.

Thanks

Thanks Skip, but I'll probably pass on doing it myself this year. I'm mechanical, but I have zero experience with this equipment. I'm going to start with the simple stuff and work my way up.

Thanks again.

bp in gp,

I know it's probably a little late...

Your options are Colony Marine or Michigan Marine Gear.

Michigan Marine Gear is on Stephens west of Little Mack in S.C.S. You'll need a trailer to get the boat there.
