We usually hang out/anchor around Lake Lanier Islands but I'd like to explore the North East part of the lake next weekend (and find a good cove to stay overnight on the hook). Anyone have experience (recent experience from a water level standpoint) navigating up that way? For example, say I'm starting at Brown's Bridge and heading up either the Chestatee River or instead towards Little River/Chatahoochee. The goal is to find someplace very private, not very populated but not risky in terms of water hazards. Which way (and how far can I go in that direction?) is less populated and also are there any hazards (due to the lake level) that I need to be aware of? Since I'm not familiar with these waters I don't want to go anywhere tricky and risk hitting something.

Regards,
Jason

The north part of the lake has many hidden treasures for over-nighting. That's why they will remain hidden. Seriously, with the lake at its current level(1055) there should be no night time boating, period! You need to be on the lookout for floating objects(logs) that were deposited into the lake during Hanna. So do a little discovering during the daylight and you will find a nice quiet cove up there somewhere. Hope it's not where I am already. Enjoy.

Thanks Moose. I definitely wouldn't be night time boating under any circumstance other than a medical emergency! I worry about my props as it is, already hit something once in plain daylight. Okay, we'll carefully go explore up that way on Friday or Saturday and try and find a quiet cove to drop anchor for the night. Any thoughts on Chestatee River versus heading up/owards Little River/Chatahoochee?

Regards,
Jason
