Hey all, I'm jbullington. I'm the lead tech at a comp boat dealer in Boise Idaho. Mostly see wake and ski boats. The wife and I are currently looking at purchasing an 86 268 with twin 4.3's. This is the cleanest cruiser that we have had come through the shop and is mechanically sound asides from needing drive services and tune ups. She has right around 1500 hrs on the clock, and previous owner said engines were rebuilt 600 hours or so ago. Gell is damn near flawless, and has a solid hull. My question is what should i look for in this beauty? What are some of the quirks that I need to know about? What is common on them to be bad? Your help helps me make the right decision for my family, thanks!

Having this one myself, make sure everything is solid in the engine compartment. I ran into an issue where water was getting trapped in the cross section in front of the engines where the batteries sit.

Check out our dedicated thread, tons of info in here. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/24866-268DA-and-Weekenders

Also look for water stains in the head liner around the windows, and the stanchions for the bow rail. I had to do a lot of resealing that Sea Ray never did.

Yeah, you have a bunch of reading to do...LOL.

I'm sure in that thread somewhere, I talked about my transom, stringer, bulkhead, supports rebuild project. My boat was wet from the transom forward into the aft cabin. We dismantled the boat from the head back to the transom and completely rebuild the ole girl. It was a labor of love for sure, but she's a tank now.

Look for stringer and transom rot. Other than that, they are great boats!

Thanks! i think so as well. One of the perks of working for the dealer, I get her at cost, and also all the parts and accessories I wish to get. She isnt perfect, needs some little things. The more and more I look at her in the lot, the more I am wanting her.

Good looking boat, super clean. Im tearing apart a 260 weekender right now whith rotted transom and stringers. But she is very unique with twin engines in a 26' boat.
