I am looking at a 2007 48 Sundancer tomorrow, if all looks well I maybe a 48DA owner. Some of you will probably think I'm crazy but the hull is black. I had a black hull boat prior to my 420 and really like the look. I commented in another thread about why would one go from a 420DA/44DA to a 48 DA, that there is not much of a difference. Well during my 2 week boat trip to Block Island I had the opportunity to board a dock mates 48DA, what a boat. I told my broker to keep an eye out for one and wouldn't you know one came available at the right price. It has everything we want, I will add Nuteak to the cockpit if the deal goes through.

Jon, good luck. Like you we spent 10 days on the 420 up in Nantucket and my wife is convinced we need a bigger dancer with the 3 kids. The 48 fixes a few things:
1. Master stateroom bed is much bigger and easier to move around.
2. More room for 2 people to move about the master as well. We can't both be in the 420 stateroom and move about.
3. Washer drier -
4. Aft stateroom with 2 beds.
5. Larger salon.
6. With a drop curtain you can easily enclose the cockpit and use that as another place to hang when the weather is bad and when the kids go to sleep.
7. Hydraulic lift.

She still wants a 52 sedan bridge which probably works better but I can't commit to that type of boat. Over the winter we will decide......

Rocket,
You are exactly right on all your comments. The 52 Sedan Bridge is a a great boat, much more room.

I can't say enough good things about the 48DA, we love ours (although that doesn't stop me from fantasizing about a 610...). We're departing Fri morning for about 10 days in Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket with 3 adults and 3 kids and it will sleep all comfortably. My two cents on your purchase would be to do real teak over Nuteak and make sure you have a hydraulic platform. We bought ours without either of those things but had both added last winter. I was in favor of Nuteak and my wife lobbied for the real thing. I went along and now when we're side-by-side with a boat that has fake teak, you really notice a difference. The conversion of the platform to hydraulic has made a huge difference in the usability of the dinghy. Whereas it used to be a tedious and hard process to haul the dinghy up on the platform, it now takes about 1 minute to launch it and 2 minutes to secure it back to the platform and so we take it everywhere and use it all the time.

Boston Jim,
Thanks, right now the deal is a no go. I needed to trade my boat in, the buyer for my boat backed out. Looking for the next deal. Enjoy your trip.

Jon

It's the best 420 out there. I was at your marina a last week with it. PM me if you would like details and if you are really interested.

Jon,

Isn't this amazing how one day a "super yacht" we always wanted becomes just too small in a short time?...

I hope the 480DA is a good choice for you. It's a beautiful boat. Good luck with the upgrade.

Very true Alex. Thanks.

Watching this thread. The 48 is a beautiful boat.....good luck.

Jon, I crossed the gulf and went to the Abacos in 2010 in my 48, then in 2012 took the 48 over 1,000 nautical miles (to the Exumas, Florida Keys, etc.) in about five weeks. It's an excellent boat, a great mix of 'up top' and 'down below' space. Tons of storage under the salon and around the salon itself, great working kitchen, etc. We had the helm curtain you mentioned when I bought the boat - I took that out actually (preferred to just put up a camper canvas so the entire cockpit area could be zipped up on a rainy day rather than just the helm area). You will want to add a third row of lights to the hardtop, otherwise at night the aft seating area is pretty dark. And carry an extra engine belt with your spares, the QSC is an excellent platform but if that $30 belt breaks (it happened to me, I know), you're down an engine quickly (unlike the QSM11). Anyway, overall - great boat, you will love it. Keep us posted! PS - I know what some people say about the black hull but personally I love them, I'm about four slips down from a black-hull 48 and it always looks super sharp.

Good luck! If the survey doesnt work out I have a f3eshwater 43 DA waiting for you. ; )

Thanks Jason, we are excited about the 48.
