Looking @ '96 250 Sundancer buying help

I think the boat shows very nicely. She looks to be well kept. Make an offer contigent on a seatrial, surveys and further inspection. I would have a mechanical survey on the engine and outdrive. Have the compression checked and exhaust manifolds and risers. I would have the outdrive inspected and aligned. Assuming all of those things are in proper order and have no major needs, have fun boating. The 250DA is very similar to my 260DA which replaced the 250DA.
Best of luck.

The listing is kind of short on details & I don't know the conversion to U.S. dollars so I just note some observations. Maybe food for thought...

1. The boat is equipped with a Windlass. Not common on 250s here in the U.S. Nice!
2. Is the trailer included in that price?
3. I noticed no VHF radio. Am I missing something or just showing my ignorance?
4. Sleeps 6 huh? There is not room for 6 people to do anything on my 250.
5. No mention of hours. In doing your homework I would look for maintenance records of both the engine & out drive. Even with records I would suspect extra time may need to be spent surveying.

By the way... Welcome to CSR!
ps... I notice it has a hob. Nice! I guess.

I have a 1995 250DA so I will try to offer some perspective.

The pictures make the boat look impeccable - the fiberglass and the vinyl appear to be perfect. Everything in the list of features are stock OEM components except the windlass and electric toilet. You would need six very friendly people to sleep that many on the boat - that is overstated. No mention of any canvas and none in the pictures.

It is a 16 year old boat. Take the time to check all of the components. I would recommend a survey.

I have no idea where boat prices are at in the UK - in Florida boat prices are very depressed. The asking price for that boat seems high by US prices at US$35,000. My boat is nearly identical except for the items that I mentioned previously and the ski package. Mine did not come with a trailer. To give you a pricing perspective, I paid US$15,000 for mine which is a year older with a newer 5.7L engine and the original Bravo II out drive. I have since put US$3,000 into it and have plans for another US$2,000 in canvas in the near future.

Best of luck, you all will enjoy that boat....I do.

check the sliding door, if you think its had to slide and you might be able to just fix it later, think again. those doors are a Major PAIN in the rear ro fix. I hate how hard mine is to slide and its super, super clean and lubed. it just needs to be redone and its a huge cost to fix it.

HI all

Just a post to say thanks for all the helpful replies

Sliding door work fine not catching at all

No vhf & it looks like there never has been one fitted.
No trailer, don't think we need one it will be in the water if we buy.
Canvas is in first class state no rips or tears
Pile of recipes for work done but no mention of hours.

Also if we go ahead a survey has been arranged.

Now the only problem is the price we have to trade in a 3 year old 175 bayliner with under 40 hrs against it, and at the moment we are £9000 for the boat and £11,500 cash but it looks like he is not moving down at all and we keep going up.

So will have a look around the dealers next week to try and compare any boats to it.

As for the sundancer how are they regarded to other boats been trying to find online reviews but can only find one

Thanks

Robert

Do you plan to add one or at least a hand held one? I'm sure most here will say you should add this to your list.

Thats what I thought too. At least research this cost so you are not shocked if you decide you want one later on.

Cool. The dates & items should give you an idea of how well maintained the boat was or if it has just been fixed up for the sale.

Both are highly recomended here on CSR.

A large percentage of people here here own Sundancers. We think they are great boats:grin:. Seriously, I'll bet you'd be hard pressed to find too many people badmouth the Sundancer.

Thanks

Just my 2cents.

Sorry Robert, more unsolicited advice I'm afraid...... given that it won't be boating season in Glasgow for awhile and the inverse relationship between fuel prices and boat prices, I wouldn't feel pressured to buy this boat. Again I don't have a feel for the recreational boat market in the UK but if the deal you describe is good for you, hold out.

My two cents.

Hi all
First post on here be gentle

Father is trading up from a 175 bayliner to hopefully the above http://www.prosser-marine.com/usedboats.php, can anyone tell me what to look out for on the above model.

Thanks

Robert
Hello, sorry to disturb, but I am the owner of the sea ray in question and am a bit aggrieved to find that Prossers are in administratio and you were keen on the boat if price could have been adjusted , as I was never told of your interest.
Could we communicate if needed to confirm you saw the boat and it was for sale in 2011?.
Many thanks,

Don

Wow!
Almost 4 years has passed. Might I suggest you PM Mr Bailey, the originator of this thread. He may or may not respond, but I guess it's worth a shot.

Welcome to CSR! (I see it's your first post).

You might get more responses in the Sport Cruiser section since a 250 Sundancer is not a Sport Boat but is a Sport Cruiser model. Best of luck.

Mr. Bailey has not been on CSR since 05-04-2011, it is unlikely he will respond to any post or message. Sorry.

Most serious users of this forum use the "New Posts-24 Hours" link and will see it posted anywhere.
