Been in the market for a while for a small to mid-cruiser, looking at the late 80's Sea Ray Sorrento, 25 ft. I see that standard power seems to be the 350 with some being equipped with the 454. I know the big block is going to put out more HP and Torque and come with the Bravo outdrive, as compared to the Alpha behind the 350s. Is it worth while to shop only for the 454 power plants and pass on the 350s. If I ever need to repower, seems the bravo would allow me to tweak the 454 much easier than the Alpha behind the 350. It also seems a lot of boat for the 350 power plant, having to work much harder than the 454. Figure the 454 would provide better top speed and make it easier for the boat to get on plane than the 350. Any and all opinions appreciated.

I see you are in Charleston. I have an 88 Sea Ray Sorrento DA with the 454-but came with the Alpha drive I think the Bravos started around 1990. Mine is a Gen 1. She moves pretty well, and quickly planes for her size-that 25 footer is really almost 30 feet with built in swim platform and bow pulpit. Don't hole shot with the 454 alpha combo, as the drive may grenade. Ive never been on one with the 350, so can't help with the comparison. Not a whole lot of info out there on the Sorrentos, Let me know if you have any questions, I'll help if I can.

Never owned one, but had a friend years ago that had one with the 454/Bravo combo. Nice boat that would get up and scoot, and I recall him saying that combo was the best power/reliability for the boat and he actively searched until he found it.

Based on riding in his boat and what he said about the engine/outdrives - I would be seeking that set-up if I was in the market for one.
