Hey you Long Island guys. It seems that at this point we are not going to be hit by the hurricane but on Friday winds will gust upwards of 50 mph. Will you all, especially any of you who are mooring, remove your canvas that day or do anything else preemptive?

NO CANVAS REMOVING, BUT WILL REMOVE ANYTHING AROUND MY BOAT THAT CAN FLY:smt009

Well, I'm keeping my eye on my Storm Tracker, to see where, when and how hard Earl hits...Looks like we'll get the outskirts and some big wind gusts...

Previously, when this happened before (unless it's a direct hit), since I have a camper top, I just put the screens in at the front, and opened the rear screen...allowing the wind to blow right thru..Worked well...

Lets just hope it turns out to see...

I will leave the bimini up and use the mooring cover. I always run a pair of line across the mooring cover from the port mid to the starboard stern cleat and vice versa to catch the cover if the wind takes it.

GOOD IDEA ABOUT THE SCREENS:thumbsup:

I'm leaving mine alone. My canvas guy assures me that the camper is very sturdy. I've had no problems in the past. Hey, and if it blows away it's replaceable!! I did add extra lines though and an extra couple of fenders....

SAME HERE AND DID JUST THAT ALSO....

Like most I Will be adding a few more lines, Fenders ect... The Last storm's flooding I lost my Dock box. Not sure if it washed away or if it was washed down the access road and someone stole it. It will be tied & locked up this time. JG

Hey you guys should come over to Watch Hill....party on D dock tomorrow afternoon....

Any additional thoughts for a moored boat. It sounds like we on the Western part of the Island will really only be getting 30 mph winds.

Hi all....So far not to bad just South of you folks......course, we have another 5 - 6 hrs yet.....but right now winds are barely above normal....5 - 10 mph.....
Navy did not deploy so that is always a good sign....rough weather comes in....Navy heads out to ride it out at sea.....so far.....so good.....
ETA for this area around 2 - 3 AM......as well as high tide......will post an update for you in the morning.....be safe

Thanks Look forward....

I'm in R.I. an up the bay a bit. Just went to the boat and tied it up good with the camper top on tight. Talked to a guy that works there and he said with 200+ boats only 2 boats were pulled and those people said don't bother putting it back in ... so they don't count. Let's hope it isn't to bad and we can go boating this week end ! !

Sorry Brian but, I am still in rehab from last weekend!
Todd

Todd, the key is to not let your blood alcohol level get too low during the week, that way you don't get the silly notion of rehab on a weekly basis....just keep that regimen up between spring and fall and all is well.:smt043

Brian, I will take it under advisement! Uh Oh, gotta run, here comes my sponsor.....

0700 update on earl in Hampton Roads area......the "eye" is passing off Virginia Beach as we speak....winds up to 35 - 45 mph.....water up about 24" above normal.....so all in all.....not nearly the adventure that the media was predicting....that's a good thing.....local weather calls for 90 degrees this afternoon and the rest of the weekend...
Be safe all and have a great weekend....
Pete

I put a couple of extra lines on this morning, and took my canvass down. I just looked at the weather for the next 24 hours, hour by hour on Weather dot com and it looks like the highest winds will be tomorrow afternoon, and those are only about 20 or so MPH. Only about 5 mpg more than on a typical summer afternoon on the Great South Bay.
I'll probably take the opportunity to srcub down the canvass now that it's' off.
