Hi, I am getting ready to install a TV / DVD player. I am looking at the Skyworth19" LCD Color TV, DVD w/Remote 12 volt. For $389 which seams to be a good price. I was thinking of the space above the Mid birth entrance which would be behind the rear facing outside lounge chair. I would like to get a mount / arm that will be able to swing the TV around to be able to face the outside cabin door.
My questions am I tying to do too much with the TV mounting? Has anybody tried mounting the TV in that location and has anybody bought the TV type of Mount ( Brands ) and any reviews / suggestions? Thanks John G.

The problem you are going to have with articulating flat panel TV mounts is they generally will not secure the TV. Most of them are friction fit, some with ball joints, that have knobs to tighten up contact and increase the friction. The heavier the TV coupled with any wave action will move the TV around.

I ran into this problem even with home theater style speakers in the salon and Bose, although not the best speakers, were the only manufacturer that had teeth in the joints instead of a ball joint...

When you look at mounts, think about boat motion.

You might try Ram Mounts (ram-mount.com). It is a friction ball and socket type, but electronic mounts for transportation applications is their business. They make things like notebook computer mounts for police cars, etc. I am using it to hold up a RL70 display and it is rock solid. I don't know if they make a specific TV mount, but you can buy the components from them and should be able to match something up to your TV.

Thanks. Hi. I have e-mailed Ram Mounts to see what they have. Most likley the Price will be the same as the TV - I guess I will look into a fix mounts in multiple locations inside / out John G.

I also installed " wing nuts " on the back of the TV....so I can remove it with no tools required .

I thought that mount was the ticket because the way the arms are on cones at the joints. That mount fails though because the adjustment right behind where the TV mounts is sideways with a friction mount and the TV will tilt forward the first time you hit a wave... I have two of the those mounts. They were removed from my boat....

John,

Before you move forward, consider the viewing angle from the cockpit. In my opinion no cabin mounted swivel mount would alow the tv to be high enough for cockpit viewing.

Im considering a second mount possibly above the lounge seat. Last summer while docked, I just sat the tv in the walkthrough.

Hi, "mwph" Thanks, The more I think about it all I think your right about the viewing angles. A few questions if you don't mind since we have the same boat. Have you mounted your TV above the midcabin entrance? if not where and what did you use to mount it. What brand & size screen do you have.
also Thanks "Four Suns" for the heads up ( money saved ) on the mounts.
Thanks all. John G

Gary:

I looked at the same mounts and was concerned about them holding up in waves. What mount did you end up using
