Local Authorities and Boarding in MI and OH

"Consent of the governed" means that you get to elect your representatives, not that you get a personal exemption from anything you don't like.

It certainly doesn't mean anything in the above quote.

It is the political theory, used in our country, that gives government it's legitimacy.

Most know it up to the word happiness. The rest scares the politicians!

On any given weekend, there are 5-8 police boats circling and patrolling peanut island from the coastguard, local police and sheriffs department. That number doubles on a holiday weekend. I've never been harassed or seen them harass anyone, and I watch. They don't pull you over unless you're being a jackass. There's good cops and bad cops, good lawyers and bad lawyers, good builders and bad builders. The thing that bothers me with some on this forum is how they view all police officers with a "I hate cops and they're out to get you and steal your freedom" mentality. That's a sad and erroneous brush to paint all law enforcement professionals with.

Never expected this thread to devolve into constitutional theory...

It didnt. . . That is the Declaration of Independence. My great, great. . . grandfather signed it.

The Constitution starts:
"We the people, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice and ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America."

And sadly, the preamble has no force of law, either.
