Here is a nice little upgrade that I did in my salon. The television was moves, and I created a liquor cabinet in its place.

The old CRT was removed and replaced with a flat panel LCD. The flat panel is installed above the mirror at the wall between the salon and the forward state room. Others have placed this flat panel on the wall between the salon and the master head, just forward of the galley.

Anyway, the question was - "What to do with the now emply space above the refrigerator"

So I had a door made from formica to match the Vitricor. It's not an exact match, but it is pretty close. Here is a picture.

Here is a closer view.

I then purchased a black wine rack and secured it inside the cabinet. And here is the interior.

If I am traveling on a day that I know will be lumpy, I place a small pillow inside the door before closing it so that the bottles can't slide around or move at all.

Great mod. Protecting the booze is an important concern!

Is there room in the wine rack for some thin black foam for the bottles to rest on? I'd hate to hit a good sized wave and have the bottles shatter. Otherwise, it looks like a great use of otherwise wasted space.

If you look closely at the picture of the interior, you will notice that the bottles fit tightly in the rack. I chose this particular rack because of its hole size. I also use the pillow as I mentioned to take up any additional slack such as you will see on the left side where the rack is smaller than the cabinet space. I have been in some really lousy conditions, with bottles in the cabinet, and the pillow in place, and I haven't lost any liquor yet or created any messes.

Nice mod! A little windex on the door before the picture might have gotten those fingerprints!! LOL Just kidding Robert. Nice post, Todd

BTW: The crowd on here isn't that tough, that is unless you ask about portable generators!!

Nice job. It looks like it was a built-in done by the factory.

One of the things my Galley Wench liked most about our new boat was the liquor cabinet between the galley and salon. It holds four bottles, glasses and sits just above and to the right of the ice maker.

Nicely done. The horizontal orientation is a great idea- holds alot more than doing it vertically.

Only thing I might add is I would DEFINITELY add a positive locking latch on the door. Much of the typical cabinet door hardware are friction type, or spring loaded, or something of that nature that can pop open in rough seas. If you can open that door with even a moderate pull, I think you're asking for trouble...

I intend to do very much the same thing with my old TV space. Thanks for the insight
