Twin 4.3 Mercs Alpha I
I want to get a lion battery pack to have with me on the boat for obvious reasons. Costco has one by a name I've never heard of. Walmart has one by Schumacher. Haven't really looked at Amazon but I know they have a ton. Some of them say they're strong enough for 4 or 6 cal engines. I've got twin 4.3's but I'd like as much "practical" power as I can get to jump other boats or even my truck. Who has a good one that they've used and like? What brand? How many CCA or however they're measured? Also I've heard some stories I'd them getting crazy hot or even catching on fire. Definitely wanna avoid that. Thanks for your help guys.

I've used those before and yes I agree they're great. They're pretty heavy though and designed for regular use. The ones I'm referring to are much much smaller. Almost the size of a paperback book or even smaller. I've talked to a few people who have had them and said they were great but never got a brand name or model.

And yes I'm referring to lithium ion. Shoulda said li-on instead, don't wanna cause any confusion.

BoatUS tried to jump my dead in the water boat (2011 260 DA) a few years ago with one of those small units and it was a no go. The captain had to break out his old trusty jumper cables and it started in seconds.

After that experience and after installing 2 new batteries I started to select one battery or the other when I was on the hook for hours to always have one good battery to start from.

Now with my 98 290 DA with a 3 battery set up.... it has one dedicated starting battery for the starboard engine...... that can be temporarily toggled to start the port engine if the other 2 batteries are flat.

Don't under size any jump pack you get. I got one from the local HW store when I found both batteries dead. I don't recall what the size was (not tiny), but it didn't even come close to having enough juice. Even after taking it home for a full charge it wasn't enough. I wound up borrowing a battery from the yard to jump start the boat and returned the pack.
