Lightning Detector

Very common in sporting circles. I use to use them all the time when I officiated outdoor sports (not this specific brand, just detectors in general). You can get them on Amazon....

Some of the phone weather apps can detect lightning as well and give a warning.

Dave, do you have a name of an Android app that can detect lightening?

Don't mean to speak for Dave, but this app tracks all of the lightning strikes reported by the fore mentioned lightning detectors (or ones like them). Weather underground is going to start using them as well. I only mention this because I use Weather Underground to report to my sprinkler system, funny thing is it uses the weather station in my backyard that is posting to Weather Underground.

For work and on the river I use the WeatherBug app. and it does a good job tracking lighting and giving me a warning when it's been detected 10 miles away.

What's nice about some of these other devices that it's not dependent on cell or wifi access.

MyRadar. You can get push notifications sent to your phone for lightning. Not sure what the radius is...
