Sorry to ask again. Looking for a close Marina that takes transients and has a pool, beach and resturant (not too much to ask for!) Cruising from the Hudson Valley @ Newburgh. Want to do a Friday to Sunday type of thing.
Thanks for any suggestions.

2nd post....come on NYC guys help out!! (I don't think you want to come as far as my area in only a weekend, right?)

Hey G, I wish I could help. I am familiar with some of the marinas out my way on the north shore of LI but none of them have a pool, some have restaurants and can't remember if they have beaches...! Todd

Todd,i live on the north shore and if you like swimming on rocks yeah they have beaches, thats why i boat on the south shore, theres no where on the sound to really hang out, G there a marina called Brittania in centerport they have some of the things you are seeking also port jefferson is another one. http://www.brityacht.com http://www.byy.com/bgc/ here are a few that seem ok good luck

Although I can't think of a spot with a pool and a beach, I can offer a couple of thoughts...

Obviously, a lot depends on how far you are willing to travel. Sounds like you'd like to cruise on Friday, stay put at your destination and return on Sunday. But there's a big difference in options on The Sound after a four hour cruise or an eight hour cruise coming from Newburgh.

Manhasset Bay is a nice, easy cruise from Newburgh that should take you between three and three and a half hours depending on how fast you like to cruise/if you're running the tides (56 NM). Brewer's Capri West is a world-class marina, beautifully set in the bay (loaded with Sea Rays) with a small restaurant "shack" and a tiny pool that's really only worth using to cool off. Although there's nothing within very easy walking distance, the water taxi will pick you up at the dock and take you into town or to Louie's Oyster Bar and Grille, the must-dine-at spot in the area. I spent an amazing, long weekend there last season happily hanging on their stunning docks (yes, they are stunning and wide enough to land a small plane) and running the dinghy around the bay. A lot of people anchor by or dinghy over to the nearby beach although they stay of the beach itself as it is private. But it has great holding and good swimming.

If you're willing to travel more, I am told by many that Brewer's in Branford is terrific with a great pool and restaurant on site and the village about two miles away. It's a place I'm planning to check out as it sounds like a good place to chill for a few days.

If you're up for big travel days, consider Essex Island Marina, one of my favorite spots off The Sound. It's like summer camp. A small restaurant is great for breakfast and lunch. Town is a one minute ferry ride (yes, one minute) and short walk away for more eats, coffee, ice cream etc. Essex has a great pool, staff and grounds.

If I have time in the next few days I'll try to chime in with more.

Hey Joe, I also live on the North shore and even own a restaurant in PJ. I don't remember any pools in Port Jeff!! There are plenty of restaurants and I think you can get a sandy beach out by the cove??? I never boated here. Like yourself I am a south shore guy!!! I love the ocean and sandy beaches too!! Todd

I can't think of any pool/beach transient marina combos on the north shore of Long Island, but just across the sound is Norwalk Cove Marina. They have a pool and restaurant on site and I believe there's a beach area a few steps away...maybe some miniature golf too. TurtleTone keeps his boat there, he would have more detail.

Listen to Red Stripe. He once had a great looking 260DA and knows what he is talking about. I would agree with Essex up the CT River. There is also a Brewers marina in the same area. Nice beach and anchor area directly across from the Essex area plus Hamburg Cove is just 5 minutes up the river. Great place to grab a mooring ball and hang out on a nice day!

you could try huntington yacht club, very nice people and helpful crew. they have a pool and a restaurant.
There is also a very nice steakhouse call "prime" down the harbor with a boat dock.
There is a beach in huntington bay when you leave the harbor.
It's about 1 hour and half from spuyten duyvil bridge in NYC

Thank you all very much, now have some homework to do. I will let you know how we make out.
