Yes...

Nobody wants to go to a pool when it's raining... indoors or outdoors.

The pool is on the other side of that small barn structure (the marina office):

And you can't walk your dog in that grass... you have to go across the street... where there is a park and a Starbucks. The worlds biggest jackass frequents that Starbucks so if you want a cup of coffee, get there before he does.

We spent a weekend out at Montauk Yacht club last summer. Very nice and has a pool right next to a open air bar and restaurant. Only draw back is if you want to go to town you will have to take taxi.

We run out of Deep River on the Connecticut river. If you get a chance come up the river past Essex and go into Hamburg Cove. Tons of moorings to pick up and kids will love to go swimming in fresh water. It is only about 6 miles up the river.

Dan, Montauk yacht club actually has 2 pools, and fyi next time the myc provides a free shuttle to town, gossemans peir and the beach. Which run on the hour.

Yes. We use the Montauk YC shuttle to get to town and the beach.

I would recommend Brewer Westbrook as the best of their locations followed by Branford. In Westbrook they have a courtesy shuttle to take you to shopping or casinos or wherever you want.

Gary, all joking and sarcasm aside, in profile that is one beautiful boat. The proportions and lines are perfect, and the way it sits in the water...best looking SeaRay hands down.

Sweet looking boat Gary:thumbsup:, but one antenna looks like it might be just a bit off center, it appears to be leaning back about 1/2 and inch or so:lol: Who is the biggest jackass?

You may arleady be familiar with this website, it not, check it out. It has aerial photos of most marinas.

Gary, I agree that this is very nice shot. Te boat stands out very much. I'm sure you have number of them, but you could have submited this one to 2009 calendar picks.

You guys are high-jacking Tim's thread....

but.. The starboard antenna on my boat is the OEM Sea Ray thing and the dorks did in fact put on crooked. My antennas are straight. It only has a few months left and it's going bye-bye with a 16 foot digital antenna going in its place.

Now I need to go take my fat crabcake ass out and finish this heart attack.

So Tim... outside of "local knowledge", I found the "Guide to Long Island Sound Marinas" to really be the best book on local marinas... You may want to check it out:

They are not advertising based so give a more direct and honest opinion... IMO...

Sweet, sounds like a great trip. I'm still fairly new to the Sound so I won't make many suggestions, But there are a lot of great places on the tip of the Sound. You can check out our little CSR Greenport trip from last year. There isn't much from Port Jefferson to the end on the North Shore, so I would go along CT if you wanted to stop somewhere in that area and didn't want to go all of the way to the end.

Dancin Dave and I were planning to do a Block Island thing this year in Aug, So hit us with some dates and maybe we can meet in BI.

As of now... 8/4 & 8/5 (Tues & Weds) are when we plan on being at Block.

It seems strange to sound so definitive about a date eight months form now... sitting here on a cold January morning... but that is the current plan.

I did this same basic trip, on a sailboat no less, in 2004. On that trip we actually had excellent weather, favorable currents and a 100% hit rate on our planned itinerary. So I figure the chance of that happening again are slim and none. But we must plan for success!

The Air'o crew will be there at that time.
(Capt, wife, two daughters 8+9yrs.)
See ya there......
Mark.

Although I'm a South Shore LI boater we spend a lot of time in the LI Sound and have done quite a few trips to various ports on and around the Sound. Given your need for a pool I would highly recommend any of the following marinas which are at least 2/3 of the way through the Sound east of NYC; Essex Island, CT, Amercian Wharf, CT (one of my favorites though a long way up the river), Montauk Yacht Club, Montauk, NY (very much a resort), Star Island Yacht Center (across the street form MYC) and Townsend Manor Marina, Greenport, NY. My kids have enjoyed each of them and MYC is my wife's favorite for the spa. Champlin's on Block Island, RI is also a convenient stop and while it's a fun place I'm not a big fan of their sometimes extremely tight maneuvering quarters for docking and their "rafting" practices. I don't know why but anywhere from Atlantic City, NJ to Nantucket, MA we've found the best weather over the 6 years we've been boating the last week of July and the first week of August. Maybe we've just been lucky. One last note, I used to manage the operation of an oil tanker unloading platform (350-400,000 bbls/24hrs.) two miles offshore in the LI Sound. Even though this is a protected body of water the weather can get downright nasty. It's not unusual to see 4 to 6 footers and I've even seen 6 to 8 (though usualy during the winter). Like anywhere else you need to be very cognizant of the weather forecast, do not let your guard down just because this is widely viewed as a protected body of water. Sounds like a great trip....we may be in some of the same ports as you if you're travelling the area between July 24 and August 9th.

Brian-
Great post, thanks! I really appreciate it.
P.S. Nice boat!

You can't go wrong with the Brewers Marinas in CT. Mystic might be more fun for the kids. Mystic Seaport has always been a favorite of my kids. Essex is very nice as well.

On your way up if you want to pole up on the CT shore try my Marina - Cove, in Norwalk CT - they have a pool that you can use (they have an arrangement with a private pool club on site) and there is a nice restaurant on site call Sunset Grill - downtown (Washington Street - 10 mins in a cab) has a ton of fun bars, clubs and restaurants to suit all tastes - suishi / burgs / italian etc... good people watching...I am in slip G15W if you are in the 'hood!

lol :grin:Rowayton is the super posh end!!

coupla nice restaurants (Rowayton Seafood, River Cat) but boy that is one unfriendly harbor in my opinion!:smt100

I'm on your dock, at the t-head. Movin to A dock this year. I'll keep an eye out for you this season.
