So how important is that black plastic piece that goes on where the rope enters the locker? Got it all put together and forgot to put that on...ugh. When we were reeling the line in for the first time it got caught up a few times right where it drops in. Wondering if having that plastic piece on there would fix that?

Also, there were no lock washers for the mounting studs. Have a feeling I have to pull it back out for that plastic piece and will install lock washers then too.

Third question...how tight should the clutch be? A few times the rope slipped in the gypsy.

Went back done and took it back apart and put the black plastic piece back in. It did seem to feed smoother now. Still unsure about the clutch though. It slipped a few times. The top was spinning but the gypsy not moving. I only hand tightened the clutch without using the tool

So ordered a new rode last night from Hodges Marine. Tried from Amazon but nothing there. Wanted 8 plait so ordered 150' 1/2" pre-spliced with 15' of G4 1/4" chain. Supposed to be here Wednesday. Will get more pics and video next time I'm down there.

Been watching you windlass thread. What is the recommended rode/line/chain from the manufacture? If you expect it to perform like new, everything should be new... Why the 8 plait vs 3 strand for anchor rode?

The V700 recommends 1/2" line with 1/4" G4 chain. Same thing I ordered. My current line is only 1 year old but is 3 strand and bunched up a couple of times and my chain is 5/16". I wasn't sure what size it was and kept forgetting to measure it until I finished the install the other day. The 8 plait is supposed to be a little better at dropping into the locker and the price was about the same.

I have 8 plait and the 1/4 inch G4 chain with my v700. The only time it hangs up is when it goes from the chain to the rope. Sometimes I have to go back and forth a few times and it will feed.
