Old Blue, I responded to one of your other requests for information. I have traveled the entire stretche of the Snake (from Lewiston on down) and the Columbia as far as Portland.

The charts you want can best be found in a chartbook like the one put out by Evergreen Pacific.

They carry them at West Marina or you can find them on Amazon for a few bucks cheaper.

I wouldn't even consider making that trip without a chart book because there are too many areas of both rivers where it looks like you're out in the middle and you find yourself in water that's too shallow.

As far as campgrounds and marinas etc as you come down the Snake, there's Boyer Park marina, Lyons Ferry marina, Levey Landing and the Corps of Engineers parks at Fishhook and Charbonneau. You can get fuel at Boyer, Lyons Ferry and Charbonneau.

On the Columbia there are campgrounds and marinas at Hat Rock State Park (Umatilla), Umatilla marina, and Arlington. I'm not aware of any campgrounds further down the Columbia but it wouldn't surprise me if there were a couple. You can get gas at the Port of Kennewick dock on Clover Island in Kennewick, Umatilla Marina, The Dalles marina, Hood River marina and that's all I'm aware of.

I have an Excel file that lists the mileages of the cities/marinas on the Columbia. If you want it, PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you.

One strong word of caution....we just made the trip from Kennewick to Portland and back a month ago. The river is running very fast and the waves in the stretch from The Dalles to Cascade Locks had waves in the 6' range coupled with strong winds. I don't think you'd want to be on your boat in those kinds of waves and winds. If this is your first outing in your boat perhaps you might consider a trip from Lewiston to Kennewick this year and save the rest of the Columbia for another year when the river's not so wild.

Here's a link to the thread I posted about that trip. Pay attention to the waves we encountered on the way back.
