Lettering Questions

I shop on E-bay. This is funny as I view my boat as an ongoing project. The more I do myself and alter and remodel and maintain and understand, the more it becomes an extension of myself that I take pride in. I can't imagine having someone else do something as obvious and easy as lettering.

As I age, I realize some people by expensive crap to use up their money. I used to question them about principles and modes of operation but they seem to be getting dumber (Chapman?) and accuse me of cross examination. But there are other reasons to have a boat, I guess. A girlfriend once took me on a tour of her daddy's yacht including " the very bunk on which she had been deflowered!" Each to his or her own!

The lesson I learned from surviving life threatening cancer and an organ transplant is that time is life’s most valuable asset. I can’t imagine wasting such a valuable commodity on doing something that someone else can do better and I can easily afford.

Henry, you are GD RIGHT, cancer last
spring, throat/tongue, cut out my fkn tongue replaced with a muscle from arm, can’t talk worth a GD, don’t care, pumping a few thousand into my boat and I WILL have a nearly new 250 by May and I am paying to have it done. I reached the point where I’d rather sit in a bar, drink a cold beer, and write a check when guy calls and says he done. I earned this.

The problem is that we have no idea how to choose the size of the lettering or how to go about customizing a letter or two to create a more personal touch. Any ideas or references would be much appreciated.
We went through this with our current boat. We ended up hiring a company that designs logos. We gave him some ideas and he ran with a number of different fonts and ideas. We wanted logos on shirts, glasses so that logo was a bit different then the boat name. He came up with a custom font, It was expensive, time consuming and frustrating for both of us. I wouldn't do it again.
I spent a lot of time measuring the transom, taking a picture of it and he could overlay the name on the boat so you knew what you were getting and you could see how it was going to interact with the hardware and door gaps.

I appreciate those that do it for a hobos this go from a boat name question to a cancer thread? Sorry for thread jack.

No it’s not a thread jack. The thread from the beginning has had a strong DIY v. “Hire someone to do it” content. Part of that discussion is what is gained with one over the other. DIY can be a necessity, it can be enjoyable and money saving. But it also can be a constant irritation when it goes wrong, and no cost savings whatsoever. But at the end of the day it comes down to how you value your time.
