I am currently at the polishing stage. I just finished with the 3m super duty rubbing compound. The boat was very heavy oxidized and the compound work great! Now I am at the next stage using the Finesse-it II, applying it with my Makita polisher with a synthetic pad. Now my question is... I seam to be having a hard time using the glaze; I apply a very little amount to the surface and start polishing. After a few passes the glaze turns very gummy and clogs the pad. When I try to polish further, I cannot get it to dry out. The glaze stays gummy.

At this point I stop and attempt to wipe off the excess material, which really wants to stay on the boat by the way, Should I be waiting for the glaze to dry on its own or should I keep polishing it mechanically? Need some basic instructions here please. Thanks in advance.

PS the temp outside is mid fifties, direct sun and a little wind. I was looking for application temps but could not find suggest temps.

No more than 1800 rpm and keep a squirt bottle of water to to reactivate when it gets gummy. I haven't used the Finese-II but do use the Finesse-it I. I can't imagine it would be that much different.

I apply it with clean towel over a 3 x 5-6 foot long area and rub it out with a wool pad using a buffer set to 1500RPMs. Never had the problem you describe. There is very little material left to wipe off. After doing one side of the hull, I use a clean white towel to remove haze.

Thanks for the help, I will go try it again with a litle water and a wool pad. I will post back with results.

Use 3M Imperial Compound next with a wool polishing pad.........

Just a quick question.
I started with 3m Super Duty Rubbing Compound #05955, then 3M Finese-it II, then starbrite sealant. Where in the list should I be using the 3M Imperial Compound?
