We went for as much shade as possible, and all the windows have both isinglass and mosquito netting. All the panels and windows roll up, so nothing has to be stored.

My old 340 had a custom back on it. The standard upright on the stern that helps hold the top up was removed and one with no uprights was installed. Also the top was attached to the arch, both front and back. Much cleaner look.

That camper back was done by my friend Russ who owns Northtcoast Canvas in Port Clinton, Ohio.

She wanted the camper back also, we traveled a lot so inclement weather was a pain with the regular canvas. We also wanted a less squared off look so we had them do it so that it was sloped as much as it could be and still have room to sit in the aft bench comfortably with plenty of headroom. This was our previous boat.

I also did not want corner posts so we had them make removable corner posts for days when we took the canvas down. We were concerned that with all that canvas back there, windstorms could be a problem without the corner support to provide extra rigidity. When strong wind blows against the back of the enclosure, it pulls down hard on the top. Screens we felt were a must for cruising Canada and hanging on the hook. Limited air conditioning and lots of bugs, but the look would be cleaner without them.

Here’s mine, we extended it out over the trunk so the rain would run over the stern. Screens and isinglass. Only down side is we don’t have roll up straps for the aft port and starboard sides, makes it a little tough to get out on the bow.

This is by far my favorite design. The lack of support poles at the rear keeps the Sundancer open and accessible as it was intended to be and yet will still provide the shade needed and when closed up gives the benefit of the extra space.

I can’t take credit for the design, but I would 100% design it this way every time.

The biggest difference that makes a camper top look different than others is how the rear top poles are positioned. Mine and a few others here have them connecting to the arch up high and running back vs connecting on the side decks and going up from there.
