Lets start with the first mate has released the funds for the hopefully soon to be new to me 99 Sea Ray 330 express. Will use her for cruising ICWW/Off Shore, anchoring out, and fishing inshore and off shore. I am shopping (not buying) now so when I get the boat and get home(deployed) I can have an idea what I am going to be doing. I would like to keep it around $6k if possible but can go as high as 8k according to the first mate. Anyway here is what I have so far and why. Tell me what you think of the plan and if you have some ideas as to what I should do different feel free to let me know.

I decided to go with
(1) Raymarine E7D
(1) Raymarine E7 2 E7's instead of one E127 because I can use my IPad in a Lifeproof case as the large screen if I want to. (think this will work?)
(1)Raymarine 18" 4k HD radar (not really sure what the difference is between the 24" hd and 18" hd other than 6 inches.) I can hear the jokes already
(1)XM Weather (not sure what to get or what I need to get)
(1)Standard Horizon AIS GX2100W VHF/Loudhailer (already has one but 2 is never bad)
(1)ACR SAT 3 CAT II EBIRB
(1)Xintex Carbon monoxide detector ( I know its not what we usually see on electronics but the boat needs it.)

This puts me at a little over 5k.

Not sure what kind of transducers are on the boat right now and will have to look into that next. Anyone have any suggestions.

I could also stand to have an onboard security system that will text me if bilge starts going into overdrive etc... (anyone have suggestions on that)

Ok guys let me have it. Look at it this way you get to spend my money.

Don't forget about Jim with BOE - the sponsor of this site- for a great deal!

God bless you and your family for your service.

Thank you both. I am almost done. 21+ years means I finally get the boat I have always wanted and the time to spend with the family on it. They have definitely pulled the heavier load. That is the main reason I wanted the boat in the first place, to spend time with them. Anyway thanks again and I won't forget Jim. His shop is actually right down the street from my brothers house in Kent Island. Gonna stop by when I get up that way to visit.

Since you don't write if your electronics are for fishing or just pleasure cruises - here are my thoughts:

I have a C80 - and can't wait to pull it out. But I discarded Raymarine since I think their "accessories" are not as "fun" as Lowrance/Simrad. I scuba dive - so I would love to get the StructureScan/Downscan sonar system. And I do like the 3G/4G radar.

I would not go for 7" - I would minimum have 8" - but if there was a 10" model available I would get that since that seem to fit my helm panels.

So my short-list has the Simard NSS8 or the brand new Lowrance HDS Gen 2 Touch 9" and maybe one of each side. Simrad/Lowrance have just launched their "Wifi" box and it will do the same as Raymarine's and more.

But I have always been a Garmin "fan" so I'm playing the waiting game to see what the winter will bring of new products. But the current Garmin products are just "too out of date" (in my book) apart from the GSD24/26 sounder.

But I am REALLY itching to get the C80 of the boat......

Edit: Here is one who "upgraded E7D to HDS7 Touch: http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-...placed-raymarine-e7d-lowrance-hds7-touch.html

The difference in radome is an increase in power. The smaller unit will go beyond the horizon, the larger one will go farther. This means you will see the tops of large objects, like the accommodation block of a ship while the ship itself is mostly below the horizon. You will also get slightly better resolution, however to get the best resolution you would need to step up to the open array.

To get GPS/radar overlay you will also need a heading sensor. I'd also suggest going with the SH 2150 VHF. I also think you might want plan ahead and include a nmea0183 multiplexer to Make connecting the VHF and heading sensor easier.
