Has anyone else had this problem? I found a service bulletin but my boat isn't covered in it.

Service bulletin: http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/keysync/2010-05-08_005804_EN_09.pdf

It is leaking from here:

Thanks for posting. I do not think I have this problem. How did you identify the leak? Gas smell? My boat is 2.5 hours away. I will check this weekend.

There was a gas smell. I took off the plastic engine cover and traced the smell to the fuel rail. One I found the leak I saw that it was a pretty good leak.

Have you contacted Merc to see if they will help you out with this. Looked like an easy fix, just a pain.

Good catch. I guess running the blower is a good idea after all:smt038
Is that a 495, 6.2,??

$1,200 later, it's fixed. The fuel rail was leaking bad. My mechanic came out yesterday and swapped out the $800 part and we had a fun day on the water afterwards. I was still waiting to hear back from SeaRay on whether it is a warranty issue, but my smart wife said, "you can wait and wait and lose the entire summer of boating, or just pay and have it fixed." So I paid a private mechanic and had it fixed.

FOR YOU GUYS WITH A 496 MAG / 8.1L MOTORS - See if your boat is covered under that recall. If it is, then make them change it this winter. Don't wait until you have a bad leak like I did.

Here are the motors that are covered:
496 MAG and 496 MAG HO DTS and Non‐DTS Models
0W060462 through 0W069012
0W310700 through 0W387390
0W605000 through 0W632245

8.1S and 8.1S Horizon DTS and Non‐DTS Models
0W090178 through 0W090582
0W390000 through 0W397491

Hopefully if it was covered you can get reimbursed.

Thanks for posting this information. It seems my engine is not covered or affected. Because OP posted resolution hoping it is okay to somewhat hi-jack this thread. Below is a photo my engine cover. My numbers are pretty faded. Where can I find the engine number stamped on the engine?

0w 652--- looks like your not included

serial number on a tag on the back corner of engine, left rear corner looking from front of engine.

To wrap up this thread: Turns out it wasn't covered under warranty and I paid about $1,200 to have everything changed out. It's good as new.

Still worth contacting SeaRay / Mercury, you might get some sort of re-reimbursement.
