Leaking Forward Hatch

Good stuff guys, thanks! I was thinking maybe the rim (attached to the deck) is not the culprit b/c there's no moisture in the burlap-like headliner. It seems to be coming under the weather stripping. I've had the leak in the levers (through the screw) in the past and it's not coming from there. I may try the chalk think or the silicone grease thing and see if that works. This'll all have to wait til the spring since in about 2 weeks the boat will be under-cover and no longer leaking!

Not covered just yet (that's a "file" photo). Got a couple of weeks of prep work first - but yes, it's certainly depressing.

Holy ****h. Holy ****h. I've seen hangars smaller than that cover.

I could use some of your buddies with choppers to help airlift it in place. Know anyone over at Fort Dix? It's only about 20 miles from my marina!

why close up so soon.I see your loaction as jersey shore. Here on long island we still have at least another month of boating left.this is the best boating of the year.

I cleaned the surface areas very thoroughly and applied the solicone grease and it seems to have worked for me. Had a heavy and prolonged rain event 3 days ago and no sign of a leak. I picked up the solicone grease in the plumbing section at Lowe's.

Wife's done, daughter's done. Cant fight it. And to be honest, there's nothing about cool weather boating that I like. And fall colors do nothing for me other than make me depressed! :smt089

Other than joys of amateur hour being over, it's lost on me.

Excellent.

Picked up a little thing of grease today at HD. It doesn't say silicone but that's what the guy showed me to in the plumbing section. It looks like a tin of solder flux - did I get the right stuff? For $2.77 it's the cheapest and easiest thing to try first.

Maybe he's trying to suggest you solder it shut?

Nah. I didn't tell the guy what it was for. Just asked for silicone grease.

So do you just smear a thin film of this stuff on and that's it??

I can't really say. Here's what my boat looks like now so there ain't a speck of water getting in anywhere! I'll try to remember to post the results in May!

Hey Mark
Rudy and I premedicated. 400mg ibuprofen 1 hour prior to lifting. NO SWEAT!

Ron, I have the exact same hatch. Mine up front is leaking, but it leaks where the glass is bedded into the frame. If you push up on the glass at the corners from the bottom look for movement. I taped mine up where I thought it was leaking to check it, and sure enough it stopped. Needs to be cut out and resealed.

I'll check that in the spring Mark. It could be the problem. Very hard to detect exactly where it's coming from but taping could lead to a diagnosis! Thanks.
