Lazy Man's Workouts?

No such thing as a lazy man's workout. A couple of points:

1 - why does everyone ignore the legs? Work those out too - you can't ignore the lower body of many man reasons, which I will not get into.
2 - sleep, very important. When you sleep, your body repairs itself, which is important if you workout
3 - eat right and go easy on the alcohol
4 - combine cardio with weights - best and fastest way to lose weight.
5 - go slow, its so easy to injury yourself especially if you are 40 or older
6 - enjoy it, you may actually learn to love it. it can be addicting

Good luck

i did a quick circuit on my machine wednesday night. 1 set of 20 on the bench, immediately to 1 set of 12 lat pulldown, immediately over to squat, 1 set of 20.

lasted about 5 minutes. i was dead.

now if i could motivate myself to make 3 rounds a few times a week i think i'd be golden.

Keep at it - you'll get there! I bet, even though you were "dead", you probably felt pretty good about yourself afterwards!:smt001

What you're eventually after is a workout that will keep your heartrate elevated for about 20 to 30 minutes. But, as mentioned above, take it slow - you don't need to get there right away.

It will get easier! :smt001

one other thing, try and set some goals. for example, on April 30th there is a 5K that I want to run in - this will keep you motivated

This is good advice. I'll add to the eating part -- cut out the junk food. Stick with proteins, fruits and veggies. When I need a snack I reach for a protein bar, nuts, banana, orange, granola bar, etc. Much better than doritos and it does actually get to be addicting.

A few years ago the wife and I decided to eat better. We only eat fresh veggies(never canned or frozen),fish, chicken and as a treat once a month we get steak.
I have to say eating right is a weird thing. after a while it's the only thing that tasts good.

If this doesn't motivate you I don't know what will.

Gave up red meat for lent, problem is recently we've resorted to eating out more often then necessary.

I like eating well, and generally do.

Tonight however, no meat on friday, probably fried fish, french fries, and onion rings. I'm sure tomorrow will be a real treat....

But, no frozen veggies huh? I stay away from the canned stuff, but always buy the bags...

Try this. Buy fresh broccoli, baby carrots, cauliflower wash and place on a broiler. Drizzle with EVOO then salt and pepper to taste. Broil on high 10-15 mins.. UMMM Tasty!!!!!

Also works very well with asparagus and squash

Make one switch for a month.....
Drink nothing but water as a beverage... absolutely no soda...juice...milk(it's ok with cereal)... or alcohol(1 month- you can do it) you will lose 5 lbs!

I used to run 6 miles every day and surf 24/7 before my injury. After my injury I wasnt able to get around much and started to balloon up to 245 lbs ( 6'2"). I have a friend in the same marina that owns a nutrition laboratory, here was his suggestion to me:

*Eat whatever you want but eat only 1/2 of what your normal portions were, no snacking

*Do some sort of aggressive cardio with high reps, low weight lifting--at least 20 min

*alcohol is sugar and fattening

*Supplements are crucial. Find vitamins and amino acids in powder form with no fillers. Powders are better absorbed into your system. stay away from chain stores ie: GNC and others as their products containd tons of fillers.

I lost 12 pounds in just under 2 months using this method....good luck

Maybe more time on the eliptical, doing core work & weights and a very good diet will still allow me to consume a few adult beverages when I want.

Timing on seeing this post again is perfect. I stepped on the scale this morning and I am 5 lbs heavier than I thought! I am 6' 3" and am comfortable between 215 and 225 but weighed in at 230 this AM. Family tragedies tend to add lbs in a short time. Ate poorly and too much and didn't workout for 2-weeks but now I am motivated.

10 lbs in 2 months is my goal. I see no problem accomplishing that...

Cal
36 here, 5'10" 170lbs. I've been weighing in at about 165-168 for most of my adult life.

Not looking to "get big" or to even "be tone", but am looking to perhaps drop the extra 5lbs i gained on the honeymoon, tighten up a bit before the ole boating season kicks in.

sooo...a skinny guy who weighs almost nothing wet asks a bunch of boating guys how to lose 5 lbs.

 Oh man, I missed this place.
