Does this look right? Mine was disconnected so I reconnected it. Perhaps this is the reason it was disconnected, it's very difficult to access anything in the lazarette now. Just wondering if the wrong size was installed or something. Thanks for any input!

The Sea Ray parts list for your boat calls for a 40# gas spring that is 12" long when expanded and 8.5" when compressed. You can compare the lift on your boat to those dimension and determine if yours is correct or not.

From there, you can change the mounting points and/or spring to give it a wider opening range. You'll have to do some dancing with the compressed length vs distance between mounting points vs extended length.

Thank you for the info. Apparently I have the correct spring although it may be installed incorrectly. I will have to do some messing around to get it right.

Unless the mounting points were moved (usually, this is very obvious), it can't be installed incorrectly so as to make the opening range different. Meaning, from an "opening range" standpoint, it doesn't matter if the spring is upside down or not.

There is a square pad in each corner of the lazarette hatch (built up about 1/2"). The pad on the spring side had some holes drilled randomly and epoxy smeared over it, as though the holes had stripped and an attempt at repair was made. I flipped the bracket around and attached it in roughly the same place with the undesirable results. Maybe need to look at the mounting location of the other end.
