Plan to run outside most of the time to bring a 560DB down the coast. 59' LOA, 4'6" draft.

CT (thru NYC) down to Ocean City MD then to Outer Banks, 2 nights in Charleston, 2 nights in St. Augustine, then down the ditch to home marina. Likely 10 days total depending on weather. Target is middle October. 1,200 miles. Should be fun.

Looking for suggestions for transients in the following areas...

Manasquan NJ
Ocean City MD
Manteo NC
Beaufort NC
Charleston SC
St. Augustine FL

Never made that run, but Ocean City to OBX is 8 hours by car at 60mph.
You’re pushing it if trying to make that in a day by boat. Maybe stop Norfolk.
But hey. I never made that water run. YMMV.

I think that's a big boat for Manasquan. You'll have to clear a train bridge after getting through the inlet. https://www.waterwayguide.com/bridge/3-873/brielle-railroad-bridge

I think the closet transient slip that will accommodate you is Traders Cove but you are right at the maximum and it's about 30-45 mins from the inlet without needing to wait for bridges.
http://www.bricktownship.net/index.php/departments/recreation/traders-cove-marina/. You'll also need to go through the point pleasant canal which at the time of year you are going shouldn't be a problem with traffic or wake unless it falls on a beautiful weekend afternoon.

Barnegat Bay marina might also be able to accommodate you as well. They are just on the south side of the Mantoloking bridge and just past Traders Cove (which is the north side of the bridge)

You are on the the ICW at that point but Barnegat Bay has it's shallow spots so you'll need to be careful. If your look for slips any farther south you might want to stay outside until the Barnegat inlet and go in from there. There has been chatter this year on the local feeds about some schoals to watch out far so just be careful.

I'm trying to stay just inside the inlets to keep time I side to a minimum. What other inlets would work if not Manasquan?

You have the Shark River inlet which is north of Manasquan and Barnegat which is south. I don't know enough about those locations to give you good info. They are relatively close to one another so going to either shouldn't alter your plans at all.

For Charleston either Safe Harbor Charleston City or Charleston Harbor Marina.

For St Augustine I’d just stay at the city marina. It’s on the other side of Bridge of Lions when you come in the inlet. You’ll have to get them to open. I can get under it but you’re going to be too tall. Since you will then be in the ditch for good you could stretch the day to Palm Coast possibly. There’s Marineland, Palm Coast Marina and Hammock Beach Marina there.

Easiest NJ stops are Liberty Landing near NYC, Atlantic City, and Cape May.

I highly doubt you will want to go outside of outer banks in NC unless you have PERFECT forecast, which is a dream and rare. Best to plan the inside, Norfolk, to Coinjock, to Beaufort.

Honestly, looking at the charts through Pamlico seemed scarier than the thought of running outside. Some parts don't even make sense. It was, however, my first choice. I'll have to check out the waterway guide and see where the best route is.

I'll take a look at Cape May and Atlantic City as alternatives, but I think they may be a stretch to get to in one run. Ive been to Belmar - sea trialed a boat there once when looking for our 44DA. I wonder if they could hold a 560DB? If memory serves, there's a bridge there though.

All great feedback guys! So, thank you.

Don't know the first three, but Town Docks in Beaufort NC, either Charleston Harbor or the Megadock (now Safe Harbor Charleston), and the Municipal Marina in St. Augustine.

All of those offer some decent sightseeing, too, if you take some time to smell the coffee... or if weather suggests a lay day.

On a new to you boat, I would do a relatively short first few days. Get to Liberty Landing, then Cape May the next day. The third day you can get to either Norfolk or Coinjock.

The outside is no joke, and the inlets are scary. I was offshore in October on a 125' schooner in 15' seas off the outer banks. No inlet is safe in that weather.

Wasnt that where the Bounty went down a couple years ago?

where in CT? Have you thought about running montauk to atlantic city?

Initially, that was the plan...but since this is turning into a family trip, why not take the opportunity to see inside NYC and the Statue of Liberty. This slows the progression AND limits how long I realistically want to run on any given leg.

I do like the idea of taking a short stint first. More relaxing and not so stressed to get miles behind us. I think I will look into this. It also opens up options on the second day like Cape May.

I’m in Bridgeport and do a Statue of Liberty trip on occasion. We fuel up at Liberty landing. It usually takes 3 1/2 hrs. Depending where in ct you are, you may want to stop further down on your first day.

I'd be heading out a good 75 miles east of Bridgeport. Navionics has it at almost 5 hrs, which seems like a great first day.

We stayed at South Jersey Marina in Cape May once, and it was pleasant, seafood restaurant (Lobster House?) right next door, within walking distance to "downtown."

In this marina, Beaufort Town Docks, Charleston's megadock, and to a certain extent the Municpal Marina in St. Augustine, it helps to plan arrival/departure times around tides/currents. Varies too depending on whether your slip assignment is outside on a face dock or inside somewhere.

I'm not sure if that also applies to Charleston Harbor, over by the Yorktown aircraft carrier.

I'd say the prime rib at Coinjock is OK. The house made potato chips are really good. Not necessarily worth a stop unless you're there anyway, but if you are there, might as well enjoy it, especially if you might never go there again. One of the few places along the ICW where the dockhands always have a clue.
