No Bahamas for me this year (by way of boat that is).
I didn't make it to the Abacos as planned earlier this month. So have to reschedule that one for next summer. Almost... I was about 20 miles off West End and decided to call it off. Ended up at Peanut island for the weekend, which was nice to make the best of big letdown.
Already filed for my cruise permit refund. Probably never see that.
Did you happen to read the posts on air leaks at the stems of the fuel transfer valves? No fuel… The Starboard side engine started bogging down about halfway across the strait. I’ve battled dirty fuel issues ever since buying the boat, been on the FW shock and treatment cocktail but it still haunts me. I check and change my racor filters pre-emptively and did so before heading out. The boat was running great all summer, and I believed the worst to be behind me. Problem started and I changed the filter, even though it wasn’t bad. This seemed to help for about 10 minutes, then it came back. Thought maybe the tank intake screen so I put some compressed air through the line. Still no better. I then thought maybe the secondary on-engine filter, but just guessing and that’s one I really didn’t want to mess with in open sea. So at that point, with some storms starting to pop up, I decided to turn back.
The following weekend I took the whole racor unit off and found the center tube to be packed with crud. Something I couldn’t see and didn’t think of at the time. I disassembled and cleaned all 3, and now that is something that will be annual maintenance. Thanks for asking.
I did not. The valves on the fuel manifold? Was that in 3116 thread?Did you happen to read the posts on air leaks at the stems of the fuel transfer valves?
500/520DB thread October 22.I did not. The valves on the fuel manifold? Was that in 3116 thread?
My other known issue is a leaky fuel primer pump on that same side. Been reading up on that.
Sorry to Grant for hijacking and turning this into a maintenance thread.
