You might try contacting Clark's Landing, the Sea Ray dealer for mid-Chesapeake. I had a conversation about moving prep/re-assembly regarding my 40MY (pretty much a 390MY, just a new name). They found some problems that were likely caused by during a move but it was clear that they had taken apart and put together quite a few of these models. I did learn that the wiring packages are not well set up for an easy removal of the cockpit and I would guess that will be your biggest challenge. It seems to me that, if it's convenient for you it might be best to commission a dealer to do the prep for you since they will have probably done it many times for lots of models and might best understand the challenges and best practices.

I am under the impression that a loaded boat cannot be taller then 13 1/2 ft due to highway overpass limits. I don't see how an MY could possibly fit on a low boy trailer and not hit the overpass, unless it were to be disassembled and shipped in 2 parts.

13'6" is not an oversize load. Most bridges and overpasses are around 16ft. Your permit will tell you what roads to follow but don't always trust the DOT. Also I have run into situations where the road has been paved and you could lose and inch or 2 and put you in a tight spot. Pun intended. I saw a 410 heading south into Atlanta on Monday but I have no idea where it was headed but everything was off above the arch. Good luck

Moved mine September of 2011. Had to remove the hardtop and seats. The compass was the highest point on the boat at 1 inch below legal max. I had them crate the hardtop. Don't let them stick it on the bow. I also shrunk it so it would not get filthy. I was coming from Florida and my route if I did not take the hardtop off would have been off the charts long and more costly. If you want to see some pics, pm me.Dan

Yes the top is coming off, and a bunk is being fabricated for it to ride along on the front of the trailer. They tell me the electronic components can remain attached to the top. Shrink wrap sounds like a good idea. Did you encounter any trouble with the "reassembly"? It all looks pretty straight forward: screws, bolts, caulking...The wiring could be an issue. I'm nervous as a cat.

Goodman (Sonny) Norman moved One Sweet Day for me last October. He was great! He's out of Aberdeen, MD...

He works with his wife Rhonda.

Watch out for cabling that passes through the hardtop but not terminated there. TV antenna, satellite come to mind but there may be more. My antenna never worked and a tech traced it to a break in the cable run passing through the access panel on the starboard side right next to the helm seat. He speculated that it had been cut for transport.

Yes MY is taller than Sundancer. Moving from Ches. Bay to Smith Mountain Lake, about 250 miles. I'm hoping to hear from someone who has moved a MY.

a fellow on a boating education www found a mover with a special design very l ow trailer that moved his trawler in tact. Have you checked the entire route? Alternate routes that have no/fewer higher overpasses? Have you considered part of the trip on her own bottom to facilitate the move w/o disassembly?

Just some thoughts. The mover is in it for the money, not your boat.

Thanks to all for the replies. The top has been removed and we are set to transport next week. The dis-assembly boatyard is very impressed with the SeaRay components and the related engineering. He has been in discussion with the receiving boatyard and hopefully the re-assembly will go OK...SeaRay sent us a 14 pages of instructions and photos regarding the top removal. Pretty straight forward, and the wiring appears to be all plug n play. I guess we'll see soon. Thanks again to all.

Good luck with the move!!!!

Marine Max Port Clinton Ohio re-assembled mine and did a great job. Nice to have all fresh caulk. I am sure that if you run into any issues, they would be glad to talk it through with you. Assembly actually went quicker than taking it apart, marking all the parts, and making sure the top was secure in its crate. Good luck.

would love to see some pictures of the reassembly process.

Sounds like you will be on the water soon, congrats.
