Lakes Michigan/Huron Hit Record Low Level

Had no way to measure but the saginaw river looked up a bit from last week.I also noticed the main part of the channel is open from saginaw to blocks marina,500 ft past that there were about 20 people (idiots )ice fishing and there was about twenty fishing just south of skipper buds, some of them had atv's out there for a 100 ft walk.I will be watching the news tonight .I finished the buff magic part of the boat today and started polishing, port side from rub rail down and complete transom are finished.time for more advil.

Speaking of idiots - A month or so ago I was crossing that bridge south of Hooters and there was a strip of open water down the center of the river about 30' wide and there was a guy standing next to a ice shanty to the east of the open water about 50' - What a dumb @$$ - Is any fish worth that?

Not to me ,i will ice fish clystal lake in benzie county or bear lake east of kalkaska where the ice is over a foot thick a mile out,and i dont use atv's to get there, the walk keeps me warm enough. If i have a heart attack some one else can drag me back to shore. By the way alwhite we saggy bay boaters should have a get togeather this year,i know some of us mentioned it for the past two years (getaway, banagy, myself and a few others)Nothing big just a gathering of searay owners from the area.I am not good at putting these type of things togeather though perhaps a new thread will bring out some ideas.Glen

You are right Glen. Not sure when, but we need to raft these Rays up someday. We are going in at Wheelers June 8 thru July 8, then pulling her out and going to the Lake Michigan. I'm also doing the Walleyes for Warriors this year on Fathers day. You going to fish that event?

The water is crazy low. At the Vets Park launch, the water is just in past the corner of the main seawall. I stood where my boat normally floats at the dock....weird.

might possibly work, have lots of dates booked already (Ribstock,4th of July & Cheeseburger) but depending on the date it sounds like a good idea. Been wanting to go down the Saginaw river. You guys could show me the ropes. Hopefully the Quanicasee bridge on 25 will be done by then. :(

I thought you said walleyes to warriors was only open to charter captains bill.

No, the Walleyes for Warriors event is open to any boat who wants to take a vet out. All kinds of boats show up including pontoons.

There is a "Tightlines for Troops" that takes vets out for salmon out of Manistee. That event is for charter boats only.

Do i have to bring my own vet?i dont even have a dog anymore .Mabey i could get my dad to go though, are there any laws about strapping them to the deck to keep them sitting down?LOL.By the way a newer searay owner from bay city will be renting a slip all summer at wheelers he is on here somewhere ,Nice guy we met up with him and his wife at detroit boat show.He bought a 260cc from a dock owner down from us at sunset shores.tgreene is his csr name.

Cool.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for him.

They get the vet set up for your boat. You don't need to worry about that. You will need to bring a first mate with you to help run the boat and set lines.

Your pooch doesn't count...LOL

Aside from all of the flooding, has all of this spring rain made any noticeable difference in your water levels.

While at the boat last weekend it was way low due to a west wind at first, but by Sunday we were pretty darn near pre drought levels in my marina. I know I'm in Lake Erie but my water is dictated by your water. You have a much larger drainage basin than we do.

Huron is up a few inches since it bottomed out in December/January. A lot of the water is still in flooded areas and not made it's way to the lake. Not to mention the snow in the Canadian shield that has not melted yet. My prediction is we will be back to very close to last years levels by June/July. Don't forget that the lake expands as it warms so we will also get a couple inches from lake expansion. We have not had any warm weather to start heating the water yet.

Check out the water pumping into the Saginaw Bay. The river plum extends over 35 miles to the Charity Islands...

The flooding we are having now is very close to what we had in '86. After that, we had record high water. Not saying this will happen again, but I think we are starting back into a wet cycle. Lets hope..

I was at the caseville harbor the beginning of april and I always go to a drain tube on the sea wall, I took a pic then and I went last week after all of this rain and I would say it is up close to 6" - The beach is still a half mile longer than last year but at least it is going in the right dirrection.

Looks like we are still 10.4 inches from getting to the water levels at this time in 2012. If we continue on the curve, we should be at those levels by 1st or 2nd week of May....fingers crossed..
