Lakes Michigan/Huron Hit Record Low Level

We were in Port Austin for a night in August because we ran into a storm while running north. A few docks were serviceable and the washrooms were new. It's going to be a nice facility when it's finally done.

Carver370, I was at Oselka's today in New Buffalo, it looked to me like they were down around 2-3 feet at the docks. It's the lowest I've seen it there.

Post your where you got your data. Otherwise this is bogus.

This was said in jest – thus the exclamation point after the statement. For those who take everything very seriously, I appologize.

Those of us on the western shore of Lake Michigan are envious of the aggressive steps the State ofMichigan is taking at maintaining the depths of its recreational harbors.

How about building a dam at the north end of the lake to keep the Asian Carp in and to regulate the water level. The government could spend billions on it and in the end it would save on ferry cost. HA HA.

If you are going to build dams, start with the real culprit, Niagara Falls.

It flows at
150,000 Gallons per Second or
9 Million Gallons per Minute or
540 Million Gallons per Hour or
13 Billion Gallons per Day

ETA: Oops my numbers were only for the American Side. Multiply the above by 5 for total waterflow. Total waterflow is 64.8 Billion gallons per day or 23+ Trillion Gallons per year.

As this is only my 2nd winter in the Northwoods, what is a good seasonal total snowfall amount for the lakes in our area?

Mike

Do they dump the dredged material back in the lake? I would think it would make sense to put it on a barge go further out and dump it. Net zero effect on the water level then and a easy way to get rid of it...

In Grand Haven the dredging material is piled up on the beach.

Just wait for global warming to Kick-in. Pleanty of water for EVERYONE! :)

West Michigan dredging activities are expected to be at a fever pace this spring with record-low Lake Michigan water levels as work will begin in April on the Muskegon, Grand Haven and Holland harbors. In each case, materials will be taken from the mouth of each harbor over the course of several weeks and placed on nearby beaches as “nourishment” to replace eroded beach sand, federal officials said.

That is headed in the right direction. A patch of lake bed visible one month ago is no longer. Still far from where it needs to be to keep those freshly scanned props safe.

Had no way to measure but the saginaw river looked up a bit from last week.I also noticed the main part of the channel is open from saginaw to blocks marina,500 ft past that there were about 20 people (idiots )ice fishing and there was about twenty fishing just south of skipper buds, some of them had atv's out there for a 100 ft walk.I will be watching the news tonight .I finished the buff magic part of the boat today and started polishing, port side from rub rail down and complete transom are finished.time for more advil.
