Anyone have any ideas on overnight anchorage on US side of lake St Clair? I’m taking a long trip up around the top of Michigan and was thinking of leaving the slip in LaSalle Mi earlier than planned and getting a half day early start on the trip. We can’t get to LaSalle until afternoon but didn’t want to waste a half day. Hoping to save a night of slip fees

You have Fisher Bay and Muscamoot Bay as the most protected anchorages for over night. Both are large bays so depending on the wind direction can still get some wave action for sleeping. What’s your draft?

When are you leaving?

Leaving the afternoon of the 5th
My draft is 5’
It’s a 48’ Hatteras

I just looked both of those bay up on waterway guide. Pretty shallow in there. Maybe stay on the southern outer edge?

3.5 on average under my keel last weekend in muscamoot . Its a lot lower than last year

You probably draft 3 so over all it’s probably 6.5 deep?
That would make my butt pucker with a 5 foot draft

thanks for the help guys

Plasma, yea a 48 Hatteras might have too much draft to get into Fishers or Muscamoot Bay. I personally wouldn't risk it with the lower water levels this year. Might be best to just get a slip somewhere.

Depending on where you are heading, Lk St. Clair Metropark might be a good option for an overnight. Really easy to dock there, very wide horse shoe shaped harbor. But, no food options as it is a park, so grilling up some grub is best option. Or, right by the Metropark (or just past it on the river), there is a back lagoon that is pretty protected from wind. Some people drop hook there for the day to get out of the wind, not sure if there would be any issue with staying on the hook overnight there. Maybe some others from the area can advise.
What is your trip / stops looking like? We will be running north, up into Lk Huron starting on July 3rd, with some planned stops along the way. Port Sanilac, Presque Isle, Mackinaw Island, Cheboygan then back down to Harbor Beach for their Maritime festival (July 9th & 10th). Maybe we will cross paths?

Trip is looking like LaSalle to Lake St Clair then to Harbor Beach. Presque Isle, Charlevoix for Boyne Thunder, Frankfort then Grand Haven. Weather dependent doing it in a week. Leaving the 5th and arriving Grand Haven on the 11th

Heavily studying navionics I found a spot on the south side of harsens Island. It looks to be deep enough. Hopefully the winds will cooperate

South side of Harsens island? You will be in Canada! Unless you will be on Harsens island, maybe by the old club? or Idle hour yacht club. They may have transient slips.
I believe Seaway Island is an old Indian reservation.

If you're looking to do it without any dockage fees and be in protected water, that is definitely a good choice. Deep water all the way into there and all over that lagoon.

+1 for Brent's option. Metro is clean and deep enough for you. You can always stop at Bumpers or Crews Inn for some grub before heading into Metro, or grill at Metro like mentioned before. I personally wouldn't stay on the hook unless I was in a bay.

I give….. Trying to make reservations at Jefferson Beach. Getting through port Huron during the restricted time frame I have has proven difficult. I can’t leave LaSalle until mid-afternoon. The Hatteras cruises at about 10mph. I was hoping to get a 50 mile jump by leaving the day I get to the Marina. I might have to wait until the next morning. It’s 100 miles LaSalle to Port Huron. Long day at the helm for this old guy

Well, if you're trying to make reservations then you're OK with paying. You should also try calling Brownies on the Lake or Watermark (restaurant). They both have seawalls that you could overnight on, especially if you're a customer. They are both use the same harbor entrance as Jefferson Beach Marina and might be two more options for you to try.

Thanks! Yes 10mph. I sold my Sundancer and chose a 48 Hatteras motor yacht.extremely comfortable. It will run 18-20 mph at 38 gph but 10mph at 8 or 9gph. I don’t need to get there fast. I just need to arrive safe and rested along with my kids and grandkids. Retirement suits me just fine. Slower pace….
