Lake Oroville pics,

I just read a similar article in the San Jose Mercury News. They are estimating that there are between 500,000 and 1 million cubic yards of debris that needs to be cleared or 55,000+ dump truck loads. Looking at the spillway, they will have to replace everything from the break on down to the bottom as there is no way of telling how much erosion is being concealed by the top layer of concrete.

Problems with the dam and spillways were ignored a dozen years ago. Just another infrastructure problem that can be kicked down the road in favor of welfare votes. This had the potential to be deadly on a mass scale.

Hundreds of millions of dollars to fix? I wonder if CA is still discussing seceding from the USA and forming their own country? Gubner Jerry Brown, in his State of the State message to the Trumpster vowed to "never turn back. Not now, not ever." Then he stuck his hand out and asked for a bazillion federal dollars in emergency aid to take care of the illegals in CA while they use money to fix the dam.

Err, I mean he asked for money to fix the dam because they needed all their money to take care of illegals that are costing CA more than $25 Billion (yes, that's with a "B") a year. Here's the source of that dollar figure.... http://www.fairus.org/news/illegal-immigration-costs-california-taxpayers-more-than-25-billion-a-year-finds-fair

Anyway, all politics aside, those are some great photos of the damage. I wonder if they thought to use the fill that those barge mounted back hoes are digging up to fill in the holes.

That last picture with the helicopter really shows perspective well

Yeah, we have one fine mess out here! I visited this dam when it was being built back in the late 60's. It's a huge dam and pretty big lake. Lots of good fishing normally.

When they first had the trouble with the water flowing over that dam to the left of the main part and had the choppers lifting those huge bags of big rocks, the bags looked big. Now, comparing the size of those bags to the size of the damage, they're pretty small.
