Hi,

Considering a possible relocation to Kansas City and wondering if there are any Lake of the Ozarks boaters on the forums. If you are which marina are you at? If you dont mind list the ammentites they offer, your slip size, why you pick it, and the price of your slip. Also does anybody know of any other viable options for boating in the Kansas City area that I have possibly overlooked?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi,

Also does anybody know of any other viable options for boating in the Kansas City area that I have possibly overlooked?

Check out Smithville Lake just north of KC. I grew up there. Not nearly as large as Lake of Ozarks but nice, or at least it was 20 years ago.

I have heard that the ozarks offers a lot of great boating and events. We spend a lot of time on Lake Cumberland(KY) and heard the surrounding area is quite similiar. I looked into Smithville it appears out of their 2 full service marinas that 1 has closed and the other doesnt have a website. I would guess that Lake of the Ozarks is more of what I am looking for. Boating is a social activity afterall ; )

Hi Chris,

I have a 290 Sundancer at http://yachthavenmarina.com/. I can't say enough about this marina. I would say it’s probably one of the nicest marinas on the lake. The water is super calm and the restrooms are always very clean and private. All of the boat owners are very nice and approachable. We’ve mad a ton of great friends at Yacht Haven. Please check this marina out. Again, I can’t say enough about how nice and friendly everyone is. We could have gone to a closer marina for a lot less money, but you get what you pay for. Some of the marinas down there are absolute junk. How big is your boat? We sold our houseboat and moved to a smaller dock. Unless they’ve filled it already, the have an open slip 40x14. We moved to a 32x12.
I live in Lee’s Summit and it takes me a little over 2 hours to get there.

Good luck

Chris...welcome to the site. We live in Springfield and boat and Table Rock. There are some from the Kansas City area that drive to Table Rock. I don't know much about the public marinas at LOTO, but is seems like most of the boat dealers have slips they rent out. You might also check out Craigslist for LOTO. There are marina's placing add's for slip rentals from time to time. You might also check out Midwestboatparty dot com. It is much more of a "social" website, than this one, but a majority of the people boat at LOTO.

Thanks for the info. It is just the information that I am looking for. Their website looks really nice and they seem to offer a lot of dock activities(never heard of a movie night at a marina before!!) I have a 26' dancer so 40x14 might be a little more dock then I need but I will look into their availability if and when the relocation is confirmed(work). If i do make the move we will have to get together for a cold one ; )

Cheers!

You also have Table Rock and Truman lake. Although nothing beats party cove at Ozarks. Just don't take any kids.....:smt038

Thanks! I hadnt even thought of table rock. I would think it would be a comparable distance as LOTO. Im really liking the Ozarks right now but all options will be considered. Dont worry no kids on this boat(at least not yet)

Thanks, I will check out the site! Do you have any information on marinas around table rock? (assuming you are in one which I would guess you are with a 30fter)

I am in a 14 X 36 with my 300DA. The major public marinas on Table Rock are State Park(http://www.stateparkmarina.com/)
, The Harbor(where I am), Port of Kimberling(http://www.mypok.com/) and Cape Fair (http://www.capefairmarina.com/)

Typically there is a waiting list for slips on Table Rock. I know Cape Fair has added some new slip in the past year or so and they have been advertising the have slips available.

Good luck with the hunt....

I second the reccomendation for Yacht Haven. The water is calm, no spiders on the docks, parking lot is perfectly flat and Jay is a great guy. Jay lives on site and watches the docks like a hawk. I'm paying 3,600 for a 14x40 slip.
