Lake Lanier (Gainesville, GA) tips

We've got a 2005 390 DA at Bald Ridge Marina on Lake Lanier. I've ventured as far as Brown's Bridge but never explored past there, is there anyone here who knows the lake really well? I'm curious what areas/coves North of Browns Bridge are worth exploring? Specifically, is any of that area really undeveloped and unpopulated (looking for a good camping spot where we can anchor and have great privacy and swimming for a couple of days)? Are there also restaurants we can pull the boat up to and dock anywhere North of Browns Bridge?

Jason,

I'm sure you some of the other Lanier boater will jump in and help more than I can, but when I do Lanier I put in way up north at Laurel Park and run south. There is some nice Islands just north east of Browns Bridge near marker 33 that you might like. As far as restaurant not sure if there is any more. The Lantern Inn had docks but I thought I heard they closed?? The lake north of Browns Bridge is not near as crowded.

I'm at Port Royale (Lan-Mar) and north of Brown's Bridge is less crowded. You have 2 choices, keep going up the main channelChattahoochie) or go up the Chestatee. There are a lot of good hook spots in Chestatee Bay. Take a cruise up the Chattahoochie towards Gainesville and at the Marina there is a very good restaurant (Skogies, I think), you have a bit of a walk to it but it's worth it. You can actually bring your own libations, but they will ask you to put in one of their containers! No restaurants up the Chestatee but it is a nice trip.

Jason, Skogies is at Gainesville Marina which is the Four Winns dealer. I would rate the food as "Marina chow" It's definetly not servable at a yacht club and it's quite a walk from the docks. Lake Lanier Islands has a shuttle that will take you from the docks up to their establishments. Hope this helps.
