I have been to Clear Lake as well as the San Jacinoto River, but I have yet to launch into Lake houston. I was wondering if there are any recomended spots to go, places to avoid, general lake conditions, etc. I am also very currious if there are any places to beach and let the kiddos play? There are a few places on the SanJac that are good for this and we really enjoyed hanging out where my son can play in the sand and such. Any advice/info would be helpful.

Thanks,
Jake

Stay on the south side if you go there. You can put in at Alexander Deussen park by the dam. I think if you stay south of 1960 you'll be okay, north of there is shallow areas and stumps I believe. Personally, I wouldn't put my boat in that lake.

Thanks, Deussen Park is where I was planning on launching. I'm glad that you suggested to stay south of 1960 as I was thinking of venturing north of that area to find some coves or beaches. So, why would you not put your boat in there? Other local suggestions? Again, thanks.

Really just because I couln't go very far because I can't get under the bridges, plus, all my friends hang out on the river and at Clearlake. We usually hang out at the island just north of Bananna Bend Beach. If you want to venture north, staying up the west side you can get into the upper San Jac River. There are some small beaches up there. There used to be a slalom course in one of the coves. I used to take the jetski up there from time to time. Here's the path you need to take, it's a bit tricky to find the right entrance.

Thanks. Yeah, we took the boat to Newport Beach(think thats what they call it) on the San Jac the weekend before last. My friend suggested that I stay away from Bannana Bend. He said "things have changed". I was considering the island you mentioned, but with 3 kiddos on the boat all under 6, I figured it may be a bit too roudy for them.

By the way, tha aeral shot of Lake Houston sure does show how lovely the water is in our area.

Jake...

Lake Houston is my home lake.....

Me and the wifey launch at Deussen Park every time we put the boat in the water.... (we only live 2 miles away... very convienent)

I spent lots of time in the water there growing up as a kid... It's just like any other lake...

Meaning....

Once you talk with some locals, cruise around and feel out the terrain, you'll be fine.

Yes, there are a few stumps and shallow area's.... More so on the north side of FM1960... But, this is where all the good water is at for wakeboarding.

Yes, there's some small "beach area's" for the kiddo's....

Ultratiger89's map show's the right way to get up to the "Kingwood" side, but, the small island that his map shows to stay to the left of.... (when you start to take a "left")... I would stay to the "right"...

I tried to go that way the first time we went up there and ended up having to push the boat off of a small "sand bar".... From that point on I've always kept that small island on the left hand side of my boat going into Kingwood and the right hand side coming back. Never had any problems since.

I agree with your friend about the Banana Bend area... I don't know if you've been there.... One narrow boat ramp... Then, once your in the water, the shallow area you have to navigate thru to get to the river doesn't really give you any room for error (1 1/2"-2 1/2" deep is what my depth finder was reading)... AND.... There's small children swimming in the water way with no intentions of getting out of your way! I had to become almost "verbally abusive" to get some of them to move!

Didn't mean to get on a soap box..... Hope this helps you out.... Keep that map from ultratiger89... If you have any other questions, shoot me a p.m.....

Merge360,
Thanks for the additional info. We may venture out that way this weekend depending on the 100+ temps.

BTW, I read your threads about the LED's and I am VERY inspired to do some of the same. I'll PM you when I get ready.

Thanks again,
Jake

No problem.... Let me know if I can help out in any way! The LED's are a really easy project to tackle and you get EXTREME results!

I see your in the Laporte area.... Where about's? I work in that area, just off of Port Rd....

I used to ski at Taylor Lake when i was younger, but I do recall very low bridges. I'm not even sure I could gain access to it with the tower.
