I am hoping you guys can help out. My mom and dad may have sold their boat and are now looking at another. They are looking for a surveyor in the Port Clinton/Sandusky area. The boat they are looking at is not a Sea Ray, but is on Catawba. Any recommendations anyone has would be appreciated.

Thanks

Guys

Thanks for the quick responses. I will pass the info on to my parents.

LTD, thanks for the PM, it was very helpful.

Also in catawba is bache he surveyed my silverton when i bought it in 03.Biel did my current boat, both very respectable.

As always this site has proven extremely helpful. Thank you to all of you that replied. My mom contacted Greg Group this afternoon and he was extemely helpful. She stated that she was very comfortable talking to him and he was not like other surveyors she had talked to, he was willing to give her information on the model they are considering as well as key points he will look for in the survey. He was very straight forward with her where most she has talked to were very guarded with 'industry information'. He mentioned that he would be in and out of the Sandusky boat show they are going to this weekend and offered to talk to them then if their schedules align. Once again thank you guys very much and better yet, my mom says thank you. I may turn them to buying a Sea Ray yet.

What are they buying?

They are looking at a Mid 70's (1976 I think) Trojan 30' sedan bridge, an F30 I think. I cannot find the craigslist add anymore. They are in a good position as long as every thing goes through end of this week. They close the sale of their mid 80's 33' Sun Runner cruiser then. They also have a 27' Sportcraft they use for fishing and general day trips. The Sun Runner was more like a condo on the water. The Trojan needs some remodeling and updating on the interior which my dad can do, but will serve a similar role as the Sun Runner. It will leave the dock some but not as much as the other boat.

Ours was Surveyed Dennis Biel Marine Surveyors LLC
(586) 463-5526. Our boat was surveyed in Port Clinton in June 2010. He as good, reasonable and fast. I am not sure he took the time to look at systems like the Stereo but was good on the important things like Mechanical and structural . Our boat was is good shape to begin with.

Dont be surprised if he doesn't pass that Trojan. Groupe is VERY critical about any boat.

Greg did three boats for me. One I was going to buy and Greg saved me on that one. The one I own he found some things that I need to know about but blessed the boat and he did my boat for the person who bought it. He will go through the boat bolt by bolt. He spent 8.5 hrs on my first boat I was going to buy he gave me the service history and previous owners name. He spent 8 hrs on my 2007 Sea Ray. He found some things on it that previous surveyors missed. If I were going to hire someone to do a survey again it would be Greg. You will get a CD and written report for your records. The piece of mind is worth it to me.

Greg Group also did two boats for me - saved me a big mistake on the first one, and I bought the second. Very well worth it!
