Our long trip (7-10 days) this year will be in Lake Erie with most of the time spent at Put in Bay. Any other recommended hot spots ... Kelleys Island, Middle Bass or Ohio Shoreline?

It all depends on what you are looking for? If you want the young crowd PIB is the place if you want peace and quiet Middle Bass can't be beat. They have some of the nicest docks too. Kelly's is a good mix of both worlds. The dockage there is not perfect but is doable. Give us more information on what you're looking to do or accomplish.

The state docks east of toledo, nice facility .And east side of maumee river for an afternoon and dinner. If you can get a transient slip at trouts yacht basin in bolles harbour stay the night and stroll over to the little restraunt a couple of blocks away, its owner is a top knotch chef ,really good breakfast menu all super fresh food and lunch is good also. There is a bar restraunt across the street that used to have live music on friday and saturday.

Keep in mind that The Crew's Nest accepts non-members Sunday-Friday morning. They'll charge a daily membership fee, but since they have more amenities than 90% of all marinas, many people find the fee to be worth it. Park Place Boat Club doesn't have the pool and fitness center etc, but they too accept non-members on a space-available basis. Portside at Kelleys will put you right in town and close to bars and restaurants, but it has little protection from surges, so Seaway is a better choice if the lake is rolling from anything from a southerly. Note that Seaway is somewhat of a hike to town, particularly if you dock on the east wall. Cart rental on KI tends to be more expensive than at PIB. (and somehow, more expensive than renting an Escalade in Vegas or Miami, so plan your rental carefully)

If Cedar Point doesn't appeal to you, then the city of Sandusky can entertain you at least for an overnight. The Paper District Marina (the location of the 2014 CSR gathering) is within walking distance of many bars and restaurants. Options range from great pizza and bar food to sushi and fine dining. There's even a "speak easy" style wine bar.

If you're willing to go a little further east, Vermillion also offers a range of dining and bars and is a great place to explore by dinghy, if that's an option for you.

Have stayed at the Crews Nest in past years, as mentioned above, very nice. We just tried the Park Place boat club for 3 nights, Brand new floating docks. Very nice, but we were unfortunate to have one night of strong North Easterlies, so we rocked pretty good. Spent 2 nights at Middle Bass, that is where we go when the boat clubs in PIB fill up with members on the weekends and we have to leave. The Sonny S ferry runs late on the weekends back and forth between PIB and Middle Bass, so you don't have to miss any of the craziness if you need more PIB. Kelly's is nice, but it has been a long while since we have been there, so not sure what is there now. We stayed at Seaway once, and on the hook once, in the North bay, and dinghyed to shore. When we were in PIB 2 weeks ago, there was construction going on, both at the municipal marina (a lot of construction) and at Park place (just one barge working on their sheet sea wall). But the locals were hoping that most of the equipment would be gone by the 4th. Interesting that Roller Coaster suggested Vermillion, we thought about a stop there on our way back, have never been. We met some folks at Geneva on the Lake who had been there and they said it was nice. Have fun.

Just got back from a week on the islands. Two nights at the. Crews Nest and two nights on Middle bass. I concur with all statement above.

As of the Fourth of July 99% of the construction is complete on the muni docks at the Bay.

Leamington, Ont. has a very marina for a night or two. Kelly's and Middle Bass would be my choice for more laid back time.

If you're a member of any ILYA yacht club, then the Sandusky Yacht Club is a beautiful location for an evening or two. If not, then I second the Sandusky Paper District Marina for a night. Exploring some of the great new dining options and bars in downtown Sandusky is a great time!
