anyone know exactly how the led on the driver side fender that seems to be associated with the suge brakes is supossed to work. mine works what seems to be kinda wierd, the lights have to be on, the led is on as i'm driving but goes out when i brake, but about every other time i apply the breaks the light just blinks (really anoying). it is a used boat and trailer, i'm wondering if someone has something just wired wrong. the trailer brakes have a manual release rather than a sloenoid. Anyone have a trailer with one of these? And how does yours function?

Is this a light in addition to the marker lights on the side and the parking/brake lights on the rear? If so - it may be just an extra light someone wired in to catch the attention of those behind you when you apply the brakes. If it is an extra light and you still have the required side/rear lights then just remove it.

Here's a sample wiring diagram - depending on the length and width of your trailer you may not have the side lights - you may have reflectors. I think the side lights and different rear lights are required for trailers wider than 80" or so depending on state.

My guess, is that it is to tell you that the surge brakes are working. When you apply the brakes, the "surge" opens the circuit and the light goes out. If the light does not go out when you brake, then your surge brakes are not working. I am basing this off of semi trailers. If you walk along the drivers side of a newer van trailer you'll notice an amber light at the back of the trailer that says ABS on it, if the light does not light up when you brake, then your trailer ABS is not functioning. Not sure if this is the answer, but a possibility.
