L.E.D. bulb replacement - cool

Ensure you get LEDs with a "bucking circuit" (constant current) - that allows it to operate with "variable" 12V voltage like we have on our boats (10-14v depending on charge level). If they are 12v only, I'm told they don't have a long life on our house 12v circuits due to the battery discharge/voltage drops...

Seems like the bucking circuit models are about $20 a bulb...

Here's a discussion of constant current circuits...

I just ordered replacement LED bulbs for the arch and cockpit in red from Superbright. I really wanted to do blue, but they did not have the 1142 bulbs in blue...only red.

Anyone know where to get blue LEDs for the floor courtesy lights?

I'm not sure why you could not get them in blue. I ordered mine from there and they sure are blue when I flipped the switch. :smt038

I'm going to order a few blue LED festoon bulbs for my cockpit from superbrightleds.com - very cool.

Question. My bulbs are 1 11/16's of an inch (1.6875 inches or 42.8625 mm) in length.

The site has sizes in either 42mm or 44mm. Which is better to go with ... a little smaller or a little larger?

Thanks in advance.

Had the same problem and I just changed the fixtures to use the Perko fixture with the festoon bulb. Problem solved, but a little pricey

Slight change to the topic, I pulled my Perko cockpit lights apart to clean the bezels (Perko chrome is horrible). How do you remove the lamp? I didnt want to pry on the lens for fear of cracking it. Is that how they come apart? Want to switch out to LED's.

I have swapped out my spoiler and cockpit lights to blue LED and I can't tell you how many compliments I get on them. The only problem that i ran into was that the cockpit LED lights stuck out to far to be able to put the lens back on the fixture. I really want to figure out what bulbs I need to replace my reading lights with in the cabin. I have been told that they are a g4 base and I have also been told that they are another kind of base. I want to be sure before I drop $20.00 per bulb on the wrong light considering I need 16 of them including the 3 puck lights over the galley. Ends up being a ton of money when you ad that up.

Thanks
Steve

Once you remove the screws holding the chrome ring in place, take a small flat head screw driver and gently pry at the plastic lens. It is held in place to the housing by an O-ring and you just need to overcome the friction. Of course first one that I did was the one the most secured, and gave me the biggest pucker factor as didn't want to break it.
