Boat Info
2005 420DB with AB 11 DLX Tender, Raymarine Electronics (2x12" MFDs) with Vesper AIS
Engines
Cummins 450Cs, 9KW Onan Generator, 40HP Yamaha for tender.
I had visited NYC boat show yesterday and had a conversation with KVH folks. I was told that just two weeks ago they came out with new product “M1”, which is work just like “M3” (at anchor or underway). M2 will be discontinued model. As most would know this model was intended to work while stationary (docked or anchored). M1 is much smaller unit. The difference between M1 and M3 I was told is simply the range. While M3 works fine (they say) offshore, M1 is designed for mostly costal cruising.

The regular price for M1 is around $2900, but the show price was in low $2,000.

So, if anyone is looking to invest in KVH, M1 could be something of your interest.

Regards,
Alex.

I'm still new to this technology and didn't have lots of questions on detailed level. It's best to call them directly, I'm sure you have some questions that only their support team can answer.

HDTV compatible? No

And

DIRECTV is in the process of moving its HDTV programming from its Ku-band satellites to new Ka-band satellites. Reception of Ka-band broadcasts requires larger antennas and additional equipment. KVH TracVision systems and all other domed mobile satellite antennas support Ku-band reception only due to size constraints and other technical complexities. As a result, KVH TracVision systems cannot support reception of DIRECTV’s new Ka-band HD broadcasts.

There are many new products being introduced for marine satellite TV and Satcom applications. Performance is improving and the units are getting smaller. there is much to choose from. Go to www.battlewagonmounts.com and choose the satellite mounts page. Click on the manufacturer and there is a link to that manufacturers page for new and retired owners manuals. Also some good info on installation guidelines.
