Kohler sucks!

I have had parts on order for three weeks from Kohler,They still have not shipped them.
The parts are going from from one facility to another then to the dealer. What a joke!!
I have put on a two stage muffler on it , put in sound proofing in the engine area and still to loud,
with a steady state of rpms at 3600. My friend has a westerbek gen which is silent.

Dealing with Kohler is a joke, my 5ECD has a bad casting on one of the engine covers that seeps oil, was a couple weeks out of warranty and had 90 hours on it. Kohler said they would send someone to look at it see what they can do. What they did was give me a bill (wouldnt send someone out until I gave them a CC number) for a 'tech' to spread grease all over my boat and tell me I had an oil leak. Only 2700 to fix plus the labor to pull the generator, 5.00 worth of west marine oil absorbent pads a season works fine instead.

But I agree on the westerbeke, slip neighbor has one in a newer 255 bayliner and that thing is quiet as can be, if it wasnt nine grand for one I'd swap it for this oil leaking, noisy, impeller eating Kohler in a second. Just looking forward to the day I need to buy a new control board when the CO detector craps out..

Just ran the boat to the mechanics and I really hope they fix it this time or next stop is a call to my credit card company.

Wow, I can see I'm not the only one with growing animosity towards my 5ECD. I put a 2008 5ECD in place of the tired Westerbeke in my 310 and have regretted it since. I'm on my third ADC2100! This $800+ POS is way too fragile for a marine environment in my opinion, and Kohler won't stand behind a new one for a day unless your gen is still under it's original warranty. If (when?) this one dies I'm done with it. What a shame as the 5E's I've worked on were so much more reliable and simple, Kohler needs to get their stuff together or get out of the marine generator business.

I must have pissed off the Kohler generator gods by complaining a couple posts up, mine has been running fine (except for seeping oil) for almost a year and it died a couple days ago. No fuel. picked up the low pressure fuel pump and replaced and it seems to work after bleeding the fuel system for a while. Second fuel pump in 200 hours, good thing is its only 70.00, I'd hate to see what Kohler charges for the high pressure fuel pump if that thing ever dies..

Remember to clean the fuel injector EVERY time you work on anything fuel related. :) I had Hi CO warning after one of my pumps got replaced. What that meant was the fuel injector was slightly blocked. I spent hours on checking the CO sensors and cables until I realised that the fault could be somewhere else. I don't think Kohlers fuel pumps are made for Ethanol.....

No ethanol fuel at our marina.

Have to be careful with sealant on the fuel system. There was some teflon tape on this one when I bought it on the fuel filter threads, teflon tape bits and fuel injectors dont get along very well. I had the injector ultrasonic cleaned last year, it has been running great, just quit a couple days ago and wouldnt restart, had spark so I put fuel a pressure gauge on it and it had 2psi, noticed the low pressure pump stopped making noise so it was dead..
