I have a 4ESZ genset on my 99 270, thats been running fine all season. We went away a couple of weekends and had some bad weather in between so we havent been on the boat, so i went down the other day just to run the motors and generator. Ran the gen as normal, started up fine, ran for about 15 minutes, and then it just shut down on me. Tried to restart, wouldnt stay running if you let go of the start button. Figured i'd let it cool down and try again. So i left, came back the next day, starts right up and runs smooth, but wont stay running unless you hold the run button down.

There's water coming out of the exhaust. It runs smooth. Plugs look ok. Oil level is good. Coolant level is good. However one thing i did notice, is when the gen is running while holding the button down, if i turn the breaker on, i see no voltage on the AC panel. I dont have a spare 10a fuse on hand, so i swapped the Battery Charger and Input fuses at the generator to see if maybe the input fuse was blown. Didnt change anything. AC Circuit breaker on the front of the Gen is also set to ON

Any thoughts? At this point in the season unless its something simple, i'll likely just winterize it and deal with it in the spring, but any suggestions are welcome

The fact that it runs only when you hold down the start button leads me to believe it's one of the sensors, like oil pressure or coolant. I had a 5 but the 4 might have that feature too (holding it down bypasses the sensors).

I'm fairly certain holding down the Run button bypasses the sensors as well, however the fact that i'm not getting any voltage at the AC panel in my cabin leads me to believe that would be the culprit, just not sure what would cause that.

I will attempt to disconnect the sensors one by one to see if that changes anything, but the AC voltage confuses me

Oh I see -- is it possible that it bypass the output too? Just as a test to run it w/o the load on it?
